Oh, Heaven Let Your Light Shine Down

And shine it did. I wonder if tac lights will be the next thing they try to ban? You might not shoot your eye out, but some poor child could be blinded. Please, think of the children!

This thing is seriously bright and it's easy to use since I have long fingers. Now if I could just shoot the damn thing and post a range report soon that'd be great.

Effective Gun Laws?

8 million checks in 2006. 73 convictions = effective gun laws? Yeah, that's about as effective as banging some chick and just hoping she's infertile.

Anti-gunners like to paint themselves as reasonable folks who aren't actually "anti-gun." They say things like "I'm not anti-gun, just pro-law." They say they just want reasonable, effective gun laws. They'll tout things like the 1993 Brady Law as proof of said reasonable and effective gun control.

The problem, as is generally the case with anti-gunners, is that the facts prove them wrong. Whether the Brady law was "reasonable" is subjective. Effective? Not so much, says the linked government report via Dave Hardy.

Funny how nearly every claim they've ever made can be easily refuted, and that the facts continually back up what the pro-rights crowd has been saying all along. Criminals don't buy guns via legal channels.......because they're criminals. Shocking I know!

Merry Christmas

I hope all of you had a great Christmas today full of awesome gunnie gifts.

Oh, and I hope everyone else had the good sense to take off tomorrow. I didn't, so I'll be at work all day.

I spent most of the day out visiting family and didn't even open my 1st present until late afternoon. When you get older and aren't really a kid anymore it's more about having fun with family & spending time with all my nephews rather than a day that revolves around presents.

I got a cool gunnie gift, and would of had a bunch of free ammo but my dad nixed that. Apparently he doesn't want my brother encouraging this *bad* habit of mine, because guns r' bad y'know? Still, a trip to the range with my bro shooting his duty guns & his ammo is something I'm really looking forward to. (I'll bring a few of my Sigs of course) With my working full-time, his working cop hours and having a bunch of young kids at home we don't see each other all that often outside of general family gatherings. We've been discussing a range trip for a while now but this is the 1st time we'll both be free from work.

I may have to talk to him about the ammo. He's got free 9mm and damnit I want it regardless of whether dad told him not to give it to me. I mean jesus, we're all adults here, even if one of us is a hoplophobe.

In other news, my dad got a new 52" HDTV that's coming tomorrow and I've got to figure out how I'm getting his solid cherry entertainment center out of the room. I should be good and sore tomorrow.

I'm With Him

Conservative Scalawag says he wraps gifts like a retarded 5 year old. I bet I've got him beat. My gift wrapping skills are absolutely laughable.

Speaking of that, I still need to wrap everything. Maybe I'll get one of my sisters to wrap stuff for me. They already know what I got them for Christmas anyway.

Light postings

I've been neglecting this site and will probably continue to do so until Christmas. Real life intervenes. Well that and I've still got quite a bit of shopping to do.

So until then feel free to ogle this picture of Kate Beckinsale.........and don't worry, I'll be back!

Snatched Away

Brittany Zimmerman

Another young life taken, snatched away by a formidable human predator who's very existence is denied by so many young people. A young woman, full of life, idealistic goals, and a radiant smile, gone because she was conditioned to rely on others for her personal safety. It didn't have to be this way.

So many young people are taught to believe that self-defense is wrong and that they should rely on the police in a time of crisis. Too many times we see this belief crumble when confronted with the realities of the world. By then it's often too late and a life is lost or forever damaged as that reality is thrust upon them in an agonizing moment of terror.

I am deeply saddened by what happened to Brittany Zimmerman. If someone close to her had instilled the right mindset and ensured she had the right tool, Brittany might be alive today.

Many colleges offer Rape Aggression Defense classes to female students. They stress not walking home alone, locking doors & windows etc. etc. At the same time however, they will bemoan firearms, ignoring their obvious application as a tool of protective violence, particularly for women.

Most colleges would have you believe guns are evil talismans. The 2nd Amendment? Please! It doesn't even exist (trust me, it was never mentioned in any Con Law class I took)

The simple fact of the matter is that guns can save lives. They do save lives. If objective fact, proficiency, and healthy respect for firearms were being instilled in young folks like Brittany rather than the pervasive hoplophobia of higher academia we might see more bright minds grow into strong, individualistic women. We need more women like that in this world, and fewer murderous goblins.

Teach the women in your life to shoot. Impress upon them that a gun is a tool, a tool that may save their life one day. I know that's one of the things I want to accomplish in 2009.

Stop Looking At Me Swan!

Oh, and fuck you penguin! It's too damn hot for a penguin to just be walking around here......Why you don't you just go home? That's your home! Are you too good for your home?

H/T to Falnfenix. That blog is hilarious, and full of cute pictures.

What About Nunchaku?

Looking over the Delaware statutes you'll find that the term "deadly weapon" is defined as,
(5) "Deadly weapon" includes a firearm, as defined in paragraph (11) of this section, a bomb, a knife of any sort (other than an ordinary pocketknife carried in a closed position), switchblade knife, billy, blackjack, bludgeon, metal knuckles, slingshot, razor, bicycle chain or ice pick or any dangerous instrument, as defined in paragraph (4) of this section, which is used, or attempted to be used, to cause death or serious physical injury. For the purpose of this definition, an ordinary pocketknife shall be a folding knife having a blade not more than 3 inches in length."
Delaware's CCW license is in fact a CCDW license, meaning that with it you can legally carry anything defined under state law as a "deadly weapon." When I get my Delaware CCW remind me to buy a billy club, ice pick, and brass knuckles to carry around with me........oh, and a bomb too. I want one of those Acme cartoon bombs so I can blow up wiley coyote.

Seriously. Who comes up with this stuff?

Just "Ideas?"

"Again, for the slow class, constitutional “rights” are just ideas, they are NOT self validating...."

- Commenter Dorian Gray

I'm pretty sure I remember reading something about being endowed with certain inherent, inalienable, pre-existing rights. I'm also damn sure that the Bill of RIGHTS codified specific limits upon the powers of government. It's pretty amazing that someone could have such a poor grasp of history that they could actually say Constitutional rights are mere "ideas."

Think any self-respecting liberal would say the same if the topic were freedom of speech, press, religion, or jury trial rather than guns?

As far as things being up for interpretation. The term "bear" is pretty self-explanatory. Whenever I hear folks suggest banning CCW I can't help but laugh and think "well it's going to be quite the shock when everyone who used to have a CCW now open carries since they're left with no choice in the matter."

By the way, where are abortion or the right to "privacy" in the U.S Constitution? There's no explicit "right to travel." Does that mean I'm not free to move about between states or within my state? Oh, and why'd they throw that pesky 9th Amendment in there anyway?

Oops.

It appears I've won two different auctions for a Streamlight TLR-1, one on gunbroker & one on Ebay.

I wasn't really planning on that, but I guess I can throw one on the AR and one on the P229R.

Cat-like Reflexes

Bush has them! He moved pretty quick for an old guy. I don't care who you are this is freaking hilarious. I mean what other U.S. President has both choked on a pretzel and had shoes chucked at his head?

A P228 I've Never Seen

In a post over on Sigforum a new member from Italy posts pictures of his new production Sig Sauer P228R chambered in 9x21. I never new such a gun existed. In fact, I've never even heard of 9x21. 9mm Largo yes, but not 9x21.

365 Days

Today Another Gun Blog turns 1! And to think I almost forgot.

Blagojevich.....

So it seems he got arrested by the Feds on corruption charges. Big surprise, given that it's Chicago politics and that the previous two Illinois Governors were also nabbed for corruption.

The truly amazing thing is that the guy knew he was being investigated and really made no attempts to hide anything. He tried to sell Obama's senate seat on Ebay for godssakes. I guess he's just so damn arrogant he didn't even care about being overt.

Quote of the Day

"Just as a college kid looks at a bathroom rug and thinks “That looks comfy to sleep on” a Metro-Tactical looks at a nice Calvin Klein wool coat and thinks “My AR would fit under there."

-JoeMerchant24 - in comments at Caleb's.

I remember passing out on concrete floors in college & taking naps on concrete ledges, water fountains, or park benches between class. I would have killed for a bathroom rug.

As far as carry, well being a lanky bastard makes it hard for me to conceal much of anything.

Blogging on the Can

I can do it now. I bought myself a new (to me) laptop, an IBM Thinkpad T43. 2 gigs ram, 80 gig hard drive and a Pentium M processor. Certainly not a powerhouse by any means since it's old technology by now, but it's fine for my needs, it's cheap, and it works. It's a slower processor than my old HP laptop, but jesus that HP was a POS.

I do seem to be having some battery issues, but for a couple hundred bucks I can't complain. I really needed something that didn't constantly overheat and crash like crazy without warning.

Karma

I can only hope the degenerate shitheads who keyed my car today get what's coming to them. Considering where I park I hope that means jail at some point in the future. It's certainly possible given the obvious drug dealing and what not that goes on.

There were some not so nice words in my hood, so maybe I inadvertently looked at someone wrong, saw something I wasn't supposed to, or somehow "disrespected" someone. I've heard "holy shit it's a white boy" more than once so maybe it's a matter of certain folks not wanting someone like me around those parts.

I just hope there's no deductible for a comprehensive claim. I wouldn't know. I've never had to file one.

Go Mom!

I found some pictures of my mom at the range..........in 1997. She's holding a full-auto AK w/ Bayonet in one of the pics, but sadly no pictures of her actually shooting that one. I would've loved to have seen that.

There's also one of her firing a pump-action shotgun and well, let's just say someone forgot to warn her about recoil and that's just not a very nice thing to do.

And we have pics

An evil bayonet and a smile. And Obama says these belong on foreign battlefields.....

Pump Action Shotgun - Anyone know what it is?

This is funny and yet not. A gun that's actually jumped
out of both hands isn't good.

They were shooting at some huge targets and she shot pretty well. I wish I had access to a true outdoor range like this.

Quote of The Day

"In England, and increasingly in the US, criminal behavior is viewed as an ordinary crime against individuals; fighting back is viewed as an extraordinary trespass on the prerogative of the state to maintain order. The latter is viewed as a greater threat to the state, and is thus being sold as a greater threat to society."

-J.N. Heath

Heath is right. In the UK and certain liberal strongholds in the U.S. the use of force is only considered legitimate if initiated by the state or state actors. It is the ultimate means of creating a populace with no individual autonomy where everyone is dependent on the State. That, of course, is exactly what the State wants.

If individuals are severely punished by the state in cases of obvious self-defense / defense of home they can hardly be considered "free" in any sense of the word.

They'll Just Take it and Use it Against You

Anti-gunners like to make the claim that an attacker is likely to disarm you and use your own gun against you. Apparently they're right, but not in the way you might think.

via civilian gun self-defense blog.

Gonna Get Cut

I totally want one of these bad boys for my P229R. Talk about being uber tactical. If only I could mount that and a light...........
Seriously though, who the hell would buy one of these other than as a gag gift?

A Reminder of Why We Carry

Breda aims, shoots, and hits her mark. You can't say it any better than this.

"Carry your gun - it's a lighter burden than regret."

And the article she links to in today's post has a passage that perfectly fits with my thoughts on the issue. I've read, "On Sheep, Wolves, and Sheepdogs" in the past, but probably not in the last year. Anyway, the passage I most remember from Grossman's piece is as follows,

Do you have any idea how hard it would be to live with yourself if your loved ones were attacked and killed, and you had to stand there helplessly because you were unprepared for that day?”
