What is it About Anti-Gunners?

It seems that the most fervent anti-gun folks often have little respect for the rest of the Constitution. In fact I'd go so far as to say it's a common theme. Barack Obama has shown himself to be a part of that crowd. Remember Chris Matthews?

Bitter has the Obama letter threatening to revoke the broadcast licenses of any news stations that air the NRA's anti-Obama ads. Instapundit has plenty more on this issue, and here's info from the NRA.

Quite frankly, I find Obama's recent actions aimed at silencing political speech that's critical of him to be scary as hell. "Truth Squads" comprised of local law enforcement and prosecutors? You've got to be fucking kidding me? That's the kind of thuggery I expect from a staunch commie or fascist. Could you imagine the media outrage if McCain's campaign were engaging in these tactics? I haven't heard a peep about this on MSNBC, CNN, and the rest of the liberal media. Why aren't they bashing Obama and defending free speech? Speaking of that, where's the ACLU on this?

Now we have the DNC getting in on the act in defense of Obama. Funny, because Democrats are usually big fans of free speech. I guess they're willing to abandon their principles in order to get "The One" elected President.

This man is threatening legal action against news agencies who air the NRA's anti-Obama ad. The NRA's ad is true, which has been proven beyond a doubt. That said, this is uncalled for Chicago-style politics whether the ad were true or not. If the claims are untrue then Obama should be suing for libel, if not then he needs to shut the hell up, be a man, and respect free speech rights of those who disagree with him politically. I guess this is what Obama had in mind when he spoke of a "new kind of politics?"

If there was one type of free speech most cherished by our founding fathers it was political dissent.

In 1804 Thomas Jefferson wrote,

"....man may be governed by reason and truth. Our first object should therefore be, to leave open to him all the avenues to truth. The most effectual hitherto found, is the freedom of the press. It is, therefore, the first shut up by those who fear the investigation of their actions."

Why is Obama attempting to silence free speech and the running of the NRA's ad? Simple, he fears the investigation of his actions and he fears the truth. I fear those who stand against dissemination of the truth. Obama should be getting hammered by the media for his outright contempt for the 1st Amendment, but I won't hold my breath.

Oh, and here's the NRA ad Obama is having a big hissy fit over.
