Via Delaware Liberal and Huffpo we see that an alleged White Supremacist went on a shooting rampage at the Holocaust Museum in Washington D.C. It is noted in his bio that he served 6.5 years in Federal Prison in the early 1980's.
I don't get it, I thought all of DC was a "gun free zone?" I thought felons couldn't own guns?
Oh, and guess what stopped Van Brunn? Two people with guns who shot back!
Clearly this is all the fault of the evil gun lobby and Dick Heller! Without them DC would still be a 100% gun free utopia where unicorn farts keep everyone safe and things like this just don't happen.
Update - Oh god, the whole "blame Dick Heller" bit above was a joke, but Sebastian tells us that some raving loon from the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence actually did blame the Heller case.

We need more shooting back!
I agree dirtcrashr
My girlfriend asked me about this- and I explained the gun laws I knew that were broken to her and how more wouldn't help.
as anti-gun as she is, she still had to stop and say 'oh, that didn't work'
It was like this criminal had absolutely no regard or respect for our government's laws or our society's contracts.
Oh wait...
Obviously the answer is more laws!

Yes, and that's exactly why we need to cut down the availability of guns. That's why all pro-gun initiatives exacerbate the violence problem, even if only indirectly.
By the way, lawful gun owners must come in contact with guys like this from time to time, right? Let's say a guy has a felony conviction years ago, but he wants to defend himself just like everybody else. He believes in the god-given right to own a gun, just like everybody else. Let's say a lawful gun owner gets to know a guy like that. What's he supposed to do? I'd guess he should mind his own business and live and let live. Same with the wife-beater or the guy who drinks too much. You turn a blind eye, right?
Then one day the worst thing happens. What do the good guys say then? Oh, he was a convicted felon, he shouldn'ta had a gun at all. This proves the gun laws don't work.
See what I'm getting at? Maybe Mr. Von Brunn's friends who are on the right side of the line should have done something. Maybe you lawful gun owners need to start policing yourselves a little bit better.

why do you insist on attacking the character of gun owners via straw man arguments equating us to wifebeaters, drunks, and people who harbor felons?
is that really the foundation of your argument here? I have always been respectful to you in our comments back in forth, but to make assumptions like this is to go too far and insult my integrity and that of every other law abiding citizen. You are simply being rude, ignorant, and condescending.
This guy had a violent felony conviction. You show me the gun owner that thinks this guy should have had a gun after that, and I'll show you another felon.
Your gross exaggerations and erroneous assumptions detach you further from anything resembling logic or reasoned discourse, and your conclusions carry as much substance as they have 'facts'.
Your suggestion for a 'reasonable' solution is to force citizens to police each other, and failure to do so represents a failure on our part? No sir- I do not say that drunk driving in your neighborhood is the result of you turning a blind eye, yet you do so to us?
unacceptable.
Yes, and that's exactly why we need to cut down the availability of guns.
Yes, because folks like this murderer, who broke at least five different laws to do what he did, will obviously obey the law keeping them from owning a gun.
OH WAIT, it already was illegal for this whackjob to own a gun. Funny, that...
That's why all pro-gun initiatives exacerbate the violence problem, even if only indirectly.
False. But you go on spreading that lie - it only goes to show how weak your position is.
As for the rest of your comment, it is 100% speculation, heresay, and slander, and despicable from every direction. Demonizing other law-abiding citizens with nothing more than insinuation is downright disgusting, MikeB.
Poor MikeB - Spouting the same tired mantra and still has nothing to back up his assertions.
Nothing I do "exacerbates the violence problem" not directly OR indirectly. Your continued insistence that I am part of the violence problem IS a personal attack on me and every other gun owner who does not commit violent, criminal acts.
lawful gun owners must come in contact with guys like this from time to time, right?
Nope. I don't hang out with felons Mike. It's not my job to police criminals with guns simply because they happen to misuse the same tool I own.
I am not part of their community any more than you are a part of the online child porn community just because you use the internet.
I know you hate that comparison, but tough shit Mike. I don't like being lumped in with violent criminals with whom I have nothing in common other than ownership of a tool.
