Falnfenix recently discussed whether the ammo craze is finally ending, and I think she may be right. Hell, she found .380, which was unheard of not long ago. It's not fully over yet, but we're finally starting to see prices drop and avaliability increase on certain products and calibers. Defensive ammo in most pistol calibers is still grossly overpriced and hasn't dropped to normal levels yet, and I still can't find any Federal HST in .45 ACP.
That said, it looks like AR-15 prices are finally coming back down and you can actually find .223 at reasonable prices again. Still, if you take a look at most major online vendors you see more out of stock than in stock, so we're not out of the woods yet.

All I know is that Georgia Arms just shipped something to me - I have a backorder of 9mm and a backorder of .223, and I am not sure which one this is.
Either way, that must mean things are improving. I hope.
A whole LOT of people have multiple orders in with different vendors so that they'll get what they want as soon as the first company gets their name to the top of the list. As soon as they get their order, they'll be canceling their orders with the other outfits.
You'll be seeing more and more orders being canceled and the backlog will disappear almost overnight when it does. How long it will take to get to that point is anyone's guess.
Oh man, the PMC is already out of stock at Palmetto State Armory. That was quick.
I'm still waiting till things die down a bit more before I buy more ammo.
yea ammo availability by me is improving, but wal-mart is still pretty drained of 22 as soon as it comes in.
I don't know if that will change- not unless the other big box competitors realize 20 bucks a brick is not reasonable for bulk.
The box was a grand of reloaded .223, at around $0.44 a round. *sigh* Prices these days are stupid...
Ok, it's definitely improving. I just snagged 750 rds. of 9mm for under $12 / box.
Too bad I've been waiting 3 months for my backordered .45ACP HST's.
Linoge - .44/rd. for reloads? Damn! I see GA has reloaded .357SIG for $300/case. Sad thing is that's actually a good price these days.
Yeah, it sucked. But I have somewhere around 3k of varying grades of .223 now, so I should be set until prices come back down... if they come back down.
