This Hits Close To Home

So often we hear the crime statistics, we watch the news, but we can't help but feel somewhat detached from the violence around us. Even if we're fully aware, it often doesn't feel "real" until someone we know has been victimized.

I've been going to Tony's Cafe in Newark since at least Sophomore year of college and Julie has served me hundreds of times over the past few years. I can hardly remember a time where I stopped in and she wasn't there, lighting up the place with her infectious attitude and bright smile. Now Julie Gricol is gone, slain by a misguided youth who was merely a victim of circumstance. She was 23.

Rest in Peace Julie, you will be missed.

That is close to home for you. I'm very sorry to hear about it. That poor girl.

Sorry to hear about that. It brings home the fact crime doesn't just stay in the "bad neighborhoods".

My condolences...

The sad thing...I'd wager you $20 this guy has a long rap sheet and was part of the Justice System's "Catch and Release" program.

I really wish these articles gave the reason victims were killed. Then we'd really see how ludicrous these criminals are and lock them up and never let them see the light of day again.
