"One of the things that’s always been amazing about the left is that they do such an effective job of making people’s paranoid delusions seem to not, in fact, be paranoid delusions."
-Sebastian
Indeed. Who was it that said "It's not paranoia if they really are out to get you?"
Imagine the media frenzy if a Republican President had issued such an order. This order gives INTERPOL superauthority on U.S. soil while removing accountability measures. If they are not accountable to any U.S. law enforcement agency then exactly who do they answer to?
If Bush had issued an order proclaiming that foreign police could now operate inside the U.S. with full diplomatic immunity we would never hear the end of it in the MSM. Obama is President now, so I suspect we will see this get far less coverage .
Perhaps I'm reading too much into it, but it appears to me that this would allow INTERPOL to operate inside the U.S. without being subject to the restraints of the Constitution and American legal system. Such a power grab not only makes the Patriot Act look mild by comparison, it also erodes State sovereignty.
As Curtis Lowe said, State sovereignty is such a quaint idea.

'Who does Interpol answer to?' is definitely a question I want answered. It has the potential to be a great organization, but it's history leaves me doubting. It's last Secretary General is facing criminal charges and the current one doesn't make me feel all warm and tingly either. I like the idea of police working together in an international organization to bring down the bad guys, but I don't think for a minute they should be exempted from
the laws of the nations they are working in.
