Point # 4 in this post dealt with the "yall are a bunch of untrained yahoos" attitude you sometimes see amongst the more elitist, condescending & elitist anti-OC folks.
Sebastian puts up a post on the subject of Open Carry and predictably, commenter "David" jumps right in with point # 4 in a very "I'm totally awesome and super fit! Anyone not like me shouldn't open carry" manner. Funny, because I'd put money on Breda being able to outshoot him even if she couldn't stand up to his ridiculous physical standards.
If he's pro-gun I'd love to see how many people he's won over by acting like an asshole. Why is it that posts on OC always bring out those who love to act like assholes on the internet?

Larry Correia covered this well when talking about mandatory CCW training
http://larrycorreia.wordpress.com/2008/05/20/mandatory-training-for-ccw/
Short answer is everybody wants everybody to be as training or as skilled as them....tho not more.
Its kinda like the antis who fight against the human rights they don't use.
Or the Hunters who fought against the "Assault Weapons" that they didn't own.
I am fed up with people using made up scenarios and Hollywood movie plots to justify not allowing people to open carry.
They did the exact same thing when states started passing concealed carry laws. It's all just a bunch of made up nonsense and hand wringing.
You can easily dream up a reason to not do something. That doesn't make them valid.
You know the reason I want to open carry? Because it's my right as a living human and if you disagree then you can just fuck off.
Why is it that posts on OC always bring out those who love to act like assholes on the internet?
Hey I resemble resent that remark.
As I tried to point out to David, I have yet to see evidence that, in actual defensive gun uses, level of training and especially fitness has made a quantitative difference.
I've looked.
Short answer is everybody wants everybody to be as training or as skilled as them....tho not more.
I don't want or care how much training people have or how skilled they are.
I care how capable they are of performing what is needed at the proper time.
How they achieve that is up to them.
That is the reason I fight so hard against the "have to have training" meme -- it creates the impression that the pro-rights community supports another entry barrier to the exercise of our rights.
And I definitely agree with Alan's last line. :)
"Because it's my right as a living human and if you disagree then you can just fuck off."
**Thumbs up**
Damn, but some of those holier than thou folks violate the shit outta Wheaton's Law.
And I'm with Alan. I carry (both ways) because it is my god-given right as a human being to do so. It is the option of everybody else to do so as well, or not. If you don't like that, kiss my white ass.
It is funny how they run around screaming at us to not be dicks... while being some of the biggest jackasses themselves in the process.
Not sure if it is due to cognitive dissonance, blatant hypocrisy, or just plain stupidity, but it is high-larious!
Also, Alan FTW.
Whether or not you feel that OC is tactically sound is immaterial. Whether you decide to OC or not, don't try to force your view on someone else.
To say that "You shouldn't OC because people might see your gun, freak, and make it illegal." makes no sense to me. If you never OC, then what difference does it make whether or not it is legal to do so?
It seems to me that the OC/CC debate has replaced the old carry in a post office and 9mm v. .45 debates as the argument of the day.
You know the reason I want to open carry? Because it's my right as a living human and if you disagree then you can just fuck off.
Yes, it is your right to OC and yes, you can tell people to fuck off as both the First and Second Amendment gives us. But there is a difference: While using "fuck" is pretty much settled under oodles of SCOTUS decisions, we are in the infancy of restoring our Second Amendment rights. The idea that everybody will just accept OC just because, denies the fact that people's mind did not change immediately after Heller and Mc Donald and there is still an influential amount of people that despise the Second amendment and many more that only know what they hear on the biased news. Those people vote and can elect others that will either help us or screw us royally.
If you wanna think "tactically" do it in the way of "how my behavior and attitude (including what I write and post) will affect the future of OC.
The worst enemies of OC are not the CC crowd but the idiots with cameras setting cops up or looking for a confrontation just because they can. When they do gtheir escapades, they easily forget that it is not only the cops that are present but the public at large. And when they post they videos in Youtube celebrating how they gave it to The Man, regular folks will also watch and what they get is "Whoa, that OC guy is a douchebag. Maybe what VPC and CSGV are saying is the truth and we shouldn't let OC be the law of the land.
Be smart about it and remember we are not doing all this for instant gratification but to forever restore our Right To Keep and Bear Arms.
That is just my thoughts about it.
Miguel,
You raise some valid points but I think you miss the aspect of Alan's quote.
We need no other reason to want to Open Carry then that We Want To Open Carry.
Anything else is bogus and it is about time that people starting hearing that message.
We hear it all the time on different aspects (GLBT, Extreme Sports, Shopping, etc).
We've become accustomed to having to have a "socially acceptable" reason for doing something. Bunk, It is time to go back to "live and let live".
The other part that I disagree with is :
And when they post they videos in Youtube celebrating how they gave it to The Man, regular folks will also watch and what they get is "Whoa, that OC guy is a douchebag. Maybe what VPC and CSGV are saying is the truth and we shouldn't let OC be the law of the land.
I think those who already agree and know the law may think that.
Where I think we fail is the entire RKBA community doesn't stand behind those people.
I did a post a while back called the "Right to Be a Visibly Armed Jerk". I think it is what we need to defend.
Did the activists do anything illegal? If not why are the cops harrassing them? Would you like cops to harass you for doing something legal?
That is the conversation I've had several times. And IT WORKS.
Everyone can see something they are Jerks about and they don't want the cops to harass them.
Instead we tear ourselves apart over it and the antis point and say "Even some Advocates don't want that -- WE NEED A LAW".
It doesn't matter how nice or offensive the actions are...it is up to us to defend the legal ones.
That is what we fail and that is what we need to change
