9mm ammo test

Here's a link to some decent testing of several 9mm defensive loads.

He tests my two primary carry loads, which are 115 gr. Federal 9BPLE and 124 gr. Federal HST.  Both loads seem to have good results, and the 147 gr. HST's show some really impressive expansion.  I would carry Speer Gold Dot's, but I can't justify the price difference over the 9BPLE or HST.

What 9mm defensive ammo do my readers use?

PowRBall. It's got the little polymer ball in the hollowpoint that makes it feed like a roundnose, and then sheds off on its own on impact.

my own JHP reloads- I promise I'm going to buy a box of factory soon.

I really like remington golden sabres, they work well in both my 1911 and my g23. I just haven't had money laying around to buy a box in 9mm- wasn't an issue until I got that little kel-tec!

Winchester SXZ, primarily because it matches the ballistics of WWB more-or-less perfectly. Makes practice cheap.

Speer Gold Dots, "The Choice of Law Enforcement." No, I am not in law enforcement but if it is good enough for them, it's good enough for me.

Rick - I'm a big fan of Gold Dots. In fact I use the Limited Penetration GD's in my 357SIG P229.

For 9mm, 40 etc. I just don't feel like they're worth the extra money over the HST's.

I still use Winchester 115gr Silvertips hollowpoints in my 6906. They have always worked well.

Thomas - Aren't Silvertips ~$40 per 50.
