New blogger Chris reminds us to stress the "shooting is fun" aspect of gun ownership and lay off the politics. This is a good reminder, as it's something I'm guilty of at times. Obviously we know it's fun, but that's something we absolutely must stress to win folks over. Don't bog things down with political crap, rants about Obama, talk of black helicopters. Educate newbies without all of that. Focus on safety & fun and try to keep everything else to a minimum. Newbies are already going through information overload when just getting into shooting / gun ownership, so keep it simple and fun, with an emphasis on the FUN. If you don't do that you're going to lose folks who might've been easy converts to our side.
Honestly, putting all of the rights issues aside, we own and shoot guns as a hobby because it's FUN. If there's one thing we need to convey to the non "gunnies" that's it. Chris brings up a great point. I think we do often tend to lose sight of that, at least a little bit.

Yep, I've got my pistol, my rifle, and my shotgun as my "buisness guns" and backups for them in the event something needs to be repaired, but that's only about a quarter of my collection, the rest I have for fun of shooting, and fun of collecting.
I need to get out to the range more, but damn this weather isn't making me want to do much more than shovel and stay in bed.
Gonna be doing parts upgrades to my FAL and my 590 Trench gun real soon which is nothing more than fun.
This is definitely something I need to focus on more myself... having to slog through the idiotic rantings and ravings of anti-rights cultists does tend to drag on a person over time, but the simple truth is that Shooting Is Fun. Need to highlight that more often, and, most of all, need to hit the range more :).
Go stretch your SOCOM's legs a bit, Linoge! .308 at range is the smile maker! : )
Mike, you've basically introduced Chris's whole slant on the gunblogging thing. He's sick of reading the politics - he'd rather talk about the fun. :)
.308 is a smile-maker until you check in with your wallet... :(
