Snooty? A little. Still a wide-mouth glass glass like that gets your nose right next to the brew when you drink.
Since your sense of taste is highly augmented by your sense of smell, I imagine that greatly improves the experience.
Does it?
At the risk of "snooty", the sense of smell is very important to the enjoyment of food flavors, and beer IS food. While it helps, it doesn't have to be specialty glass, just something to allow the aromas to get to the nose. In other words, NOT from a bottle.
