Today is the 70th anniversary of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. I'd have to look at my poppop's selective service card, but I'm pretty sure he joined the USAF just shortly after the attack. To this day he still doesn't like the Japs.

True. I honestly haven't looked at it in a while and can't remember what it said.
There wasn't really an Air Force at that time; the Army and the Navy each had their own. My dad was in the Navy, but ended up in the Berlin Airlift in winter, as he said, "A helluva place for a sailor to be, riding in an airplane over Berlin, being strafed by the Russian fighters any time you were an inch out of line."
