I'm talking about defensive ammo choices. My P6's will not feed 147 grain 9mm rounds. I haven't tried 135 or 127gr. stuff yet. Right now I have a few boxes of 115gr. Federal 9BP standard velocity, 124gr. Hornady TAP FPD, and 90gr. Hornady XTP.
I've yet to try any actual +P rounds in the P6 yet, but the 90gr. XTP's are rated @ ~1350 fps so they're near +P velocity but really light. The Federal 9BP has been a mainstay carry round for many police for years and is ~1100fps. 9BPLE is 1300fps according to ammoman.com It's weird that the 9BPLE is rated +P+ at 1300fps, but my 90gr. Hornady's are just as fast w/o being marked as high pressure rounds.
Is this lighter, higher velocity stuff hard on your gun, or is that really only an issue if I'm shooting 115 - 147gr. +P and +P+ loads? Is the extra 250fps with the lighter loads just a result of a lighter bullet rather than higher pressures.
Also anyone know anything about 9mm JSP's, specifically the 95 gr. Federal 9mm JSP's being sold at ammoman? The only thing I could find were a few reports stating that police agencies used to use them in weapons that didn't reliably feed hollowpoints.

The increased slide velocity generated by +P ammo does have an effect on the life of your gun, but for the most part I believe it to be negligible.
As for a good carry round, check out Black Hills 124gr +P at 1,250 fps. They feed great and BH makes very accurate ammo - http://www.black-hills.com/factorynew.htm
So I assume that would be true of any higher velocity rounds regardless of whether they are +P / +P+ or not?
I have some black hills .223 SP that I haven't shot yet. I hear it's great ammo though. I didn't know they made factory new (red box) 9mm ammo.
