From his article in Pajama's Media, and I quote,
"Guns are great, but exposed firearms will never be normal."
Well with an attitude like that exposed firearms certainly won't ever be "normal." As Opencarry.org's slogan says "A right unexercised is a right lost."
Maybe I'm way off base here, but it's always seemed to me that open carry was the very epitome of the right guaranteed by the 2nd Amendment. If I have to pay a fee, take a class and get a government permission slip to stick a pistol in my pocket or under my shirt I'm not really exercising a right.

I admire Clayton tremendously, especially for all the hard work he's put into the 2A.
However, when it comes to guns and gay cooties, the man becomes irrational.
As do I, but you're right about his general rational thought & level-headedness changing when on that subject.
I couldn't believe he compared OC to exposing your genitals in public. Talk about a ridiculous and emotionally-laden analogy.
Mike W.
I agree with that mindset it will never be normal.
What is worse is that only "acceptable and approved" weapon platforms will even be marginally considered.
The brouhaha with the Openly Carried shotgun illustrates this in our community. Which let me tell you, I'm absolutely appalled at the job the NRA is doing.
We are supposed to receive our orders from them and march in approved brown shirt lockstep manner. And here we have a huge, absolutely huge divide among us "gun control lobby" about what is acceptable or not.
Completely unacceptable that they allow us individual thought.
And on top of it all; I still haven't been gotten my wheel barrows of cash for being a part of the gun lobby.
Clayton is now claiming that the byline was written and placed there by the editors... be that as it may, I do find that it adequately and accurately sums up his position on the situation.
Going to second Robb's comment, though... the man has done a lot for the pro-rights movement, but, at the same time, he just becomes unglued on certain topics... And he is demonstrably wrong in a lot of cases.
Oh well. Every group has them.
