Whether you live in a state where you carry or one where the serfs have been disarmed, keep one thing in mind. The most important weapon at your disposal is that squishy mess of grey matter between your ears.
Situational awareness is key. It can get you out of bad situations and ensure that bad situations don't turn into really bad situations.....sometimes. I'd rather not hear of something like this happening to a good friend, but I'm glad nothing else came of the situation and that Laura's OK.
Also, her story illustrates once again a truism that all of us gunbloggers understand. If bad shit goes down the police will NOT be there to save you. Laura had a cell phone. She called the police. They didn't even show up. Had this man decided to attack her she'd have been on her own, disarmed of an effective self-defense tool because in MD the lives of mere serfs like you and I aren't worth much.
