A little birdy told me that Dogfish Head starts bottling 120 Minute IPA today. Guess who happens to be going to the beach this weekend and the following weekend?
I'm going to drop by the Brewpub and hope they actually have some for sale. (at ~$8 bottle) This could be difficult, as the last time my sister tried to get some they were out because some guy had just bought an entire case of the stuff.
Frankly, while the 120 was good it was quite sweet, not at all what I was expecting for a beer with such a high IBU rating. My understanding of the 120 is that it lends itself to aging, so maybe I should buy some and store it for a while. From what I've read it also seems to vary quite a bit in taste from batch to batch, so maybe what I had was sweeter than usual? 120 Minute is very much a "once in a while" beer. I couldn't imagine buying a case of the stuff at a time.
Also, this may sound crazy, but I'm wondering how the 120 would taste if you ran it through Dogfish's Randal hopping machine to cut some of the sweetness?
If I had to render a final verdict on the 120 Minute it would be this. Interesting idea, but too sweet. I'll stick to my 90 Minute IPA and Burton Baton. Still, I'm a stubborn bastard and want to try it again.
As an aside, I also tried the Festina Peche while visiting the Brewpub. While it's not necessarily my cup of tea I could see it being good while sitting out on the beach on a hot day. The tartness makes it different than any beer I've ever tried. They even make Festina Peche lipbalm.

You'll have to do a Gunnies @ the Brew Pub gathering, and let me know when it is so I can schedule a beach weekend myself.
