"Children who know how to think for themselves spoil the harmony of the collective society which is coming, where everyone is interdependent."
- John Dewey - the father of the modern education system
I actually was going to post this one a few days ago, but then I ran across Kevin's post and saw that he'd used it. Given that Dewey was a Socialist who espoused views like those exemplified in the quote above, is it any wonder that our public education system turns out so many unthinking "useful idiots?"
Of course children who can think independently spoil "collective societies." Fierce individualists are an anathema to collectivists because they are difficult to control and they impede "progress." They have both the intellectual capacity for intelligent dissent and an understanding of the importance of being able to back that up with force. That makes them dangerous.
Individuals who could think for themselves threatened to "spoil the harmony" of Mao, Pol Pot & Stalin's collective, utopian societies too. Brainwashed masses are far, far easier to control.....and to execute.
