Stupid is....

as stupid does.

Go and read this article, written at Huffpo by a struggling lesbian artist who is protesting against lord knows what and for change.....or something.

All I can think of is this scene from one of my favorite childhood movies, Billy Madison

Just because you are "non-typical" in some manner (whether it's your career, the kind of person you are attracted to, your geographical location, or whatever) doesn't mean you get a pass on adulthood. That whole "do something you love and you'll never work a day in your life" doesn't always put a roof over your head or food on the table. Suck it up, cupcake.

I'm a year younger than this person, and I know that the "Dream Job" the High School Weer'd pictured as he filled out college applications is never going to happen.

What DID happen is I did a shitload of less glamorous and brutal work (I joke about calling myself a "Blue Collar Scientist" Yeah i have a degree, but I find myself doing dirty jobs often associated with manual labor), and changed career paths at age 27 because I knew there was no viable future in Marine Biology for me.

Sorry, the world doesn't work that way, you can't do whatever you want and expect the world to beat a path to your door and fulfill your dreams.

What you have to do is use your skills to perform tasks most wanted by others. This may not be fun, but its more fun than poverty.

The dream job could happen and sometimes does - but you might not
recognize it until it's over.
It's elusive and doesn't last forever, that's the thing, it lasts just long enough to entice you back to the job-market to search for it again, after you outgrew it the first time...
