Quote of the day - killing

"Don’t get me wrong, I don’t want to kill anybody. I just realize that some things call for it. And that is what makes me a gun nut."

- Sayuncle - 1/11/07 - One of his best (and longest) posts.

When you pull everything else away that's what gun ownership is all about.  Individual autonomy and the ability of the individual to say "NO!," emphasize it, and definitively and decisively enforce that "NO!" when absolutely necessary under dire circumstances.

This is also why, when someone 1st considers buying a firearm for self/home defense, it's important that they engage in a little introspection.  If you want to own a firearm specifically for purposes of self defense it behooves you to be honest with yourself about your personal morals and willingness to kill a man if need be.

Brother Mike: Years ago on a short-lived Gun Show, a Police Trainer asked his class a simple question: Can you Kill Today? Most of the class gave answers such as "if Necessary; well, as a Last Resort; only if My Life was in Danger", etc. His reply was "No,that's not what I asked. I asked a simple question that only has a Yes or No Answer. If you are not prepared to Kill another Human Being, then you need to leave the Police, sell your Guns and depend on 911 to survive."

Harsh Truth, but it gets to the Core of Being a Gun Nut like Unc posted.

Can YOU Kill Today? Yes or No.

BTW, in Jan 1983, during a Home Invasion, my answer was Yes. Today, it's Still Yes. But Today, I've learned to use the Front Sight, because Point Shooting causes Misses instead of Hits. But that 17 year old Punk who tried to Rob me and wouldn't back out of my Home, even when he saw the Barrel of my Gun had to have a Bullet go by his ear to get the message.

If there's a next one (God Forbid!), I hope not to miss. BTW, the same principle applies to Knife Carriers, Baseball Bat Users, Karate People, etc. Can YOU KIll Today?

At the beginning of class with Tom Givens this weekend, he asked all of us with carry permits to raise our hands. He asked us if we really knew what that meant. He then went on to explain that it means we have the power of life and death over everyone we come in contact with.
It's a sobering thought. And it's true. We carry guns so we can kill people. That doesn't mean that we want to do so, but we understand the reality that there are people out there that may need to be killed.
