Blehness

I really should write up a post on Jack Markell, who won Delaware's Democratic Primary for Governor and will probably be our next governor, I just haven't been in the mood to bang out a good, detailed post. I hope I'm wrong about Markell's chances, but Republican Bill Lee didn't really want to run and was MIA for most of his primary. I'd be shocked if he beat Markell in the general election.

Anyway, expect to see a detailed post about Markell's positions as noted in his press release. in the next few days. I've been wanting to write about this for a while and have been putting it off. It's full of typical liberal gun control proposals with a 4th Amendment workaround thrown in for good measure. Funny how anti-gun Democrats lose all respect for the 4th Amendment the moment the word "guns" is mentioned.

I can't say I'm surprised at Markell's regurgitation of failed policies, given that he's been riding Obama's "change" coattails his entire campaign. His slogan was "change" and he even has a nifty little blueprint book just like Obama. How cute.

So Many Posts.....

So little time.......

There's been lots to blog about recently, but I just haven't had the time to really write any substantive posts. I actually saw the article Sebastian discusses here about Markell, but haven't had the time to write up a post.

Needless to say I'm glad we have quite a few pro-gun folks in the State Legislature. Markell is what I and every other gun owner in this state expected him to be, a gun grabber. Aside from "may-issue" CCW and a few other things I quite like this state as far as gun laws are concerned. With this asshat in the Governor's office it looks like we've got a fight on our hands to keep it that way.

I'll have more on Markell's specific plans later. It sure looks like he's buddy-buddy with the Brady's. Doesn't he know he's tying himself to a sinking ship?

I'm going to thoroughly enjoy shooting off a few letters and watching each and every one of Markell's inane proposals go down in flames.

Blood dancing in Delaware

How do you know a politician is a gun-grabbing scumbag? When he invites the family members of Virginia Tech shooting victims to speak to a committee in favor of new gun control laws.

I have no problem calling Gov. Jack Markell a scumbag. I have zero respect for politicians who show outright contempt for my rights and for the very Delaware Constitution they swore an oath to uphold. I have even less respect for those who dance in the blood of the dead and use appeals to emotion to influence public policy that would infringe upon my rights.

Of the NRA's opposition to his gun grabbing Markell said,

"They think we're going to roll over, and we're not,"

Sorry Jack, but the NRA and Delaware citizens aren't going to let you roll roughshod over the Delaware Constitution. You want a fight and you're going to get it. I hope you don't mind running to Sarah Brady & Paul Helmke and crying in their arms when you lose.

One of the things Markell wants is to close the non-existent "gun show loophole." There are only one or two small gun shows in the entire state of Delaware each year and there haven't been issues at these shows. This helps to highlight just how dishonest Markell and his ilk are being when they claim we need such a law.

I notice that WDEL refers to his gun control proposals as "gun safety." Gun grabbers are simply doing what liberals have done for years. They attempt to rebrand themselves with shiny new words when one becomes negative and unpopular. All bigots do this. It's the only way they can appear to be more moderate than they really are.

SB139 and Markell

I guess we'll get to see just what Jack Markell's true colors are with SB139, which passed the State Legislature unanimously. I'd much rather we not have the FTAP at all, given the potential for government misuse. SB139 is at least a step in the right direction.

A related bill, SB29 is even more important, given what we know about the DSP and their recordskeeping.

I can't help but be a bit cynical about the odds of Markell signing anything even remotely pro-gun.

Gov. Markell's "Gun Safety Legislation"

Governor Markell has unveiled four new "gun safety measures" today to "protect public safety." Color me shocked! A Democrat pushing gun control! Gee, and folks wonder why I rarely vote for Democrats. This is why folks, because they're idiots and have no respect for my rights as a citizen of Delaware and the U.S.A.

I've mentioned Markell's gun grabbing tendencies here before.

As usual we see gun grabbers blatantly misrepresenting the non-existent "gun show loophole.

Now, there does appear to be one good thing here, that is the proposal to scrap the redundant state level background check in favor of the NICS system and improve reporting to NICS. If that were the only thing proposed I'd fully support it.

I'll have to track down the actual legislation and read it later tonight, because some of what's written in the article makes absolutely no sense to me.

More "Gun Show Loophole" nonsense in Delaware

True to their word, anti-gunners never stop trying to infringe upon the rights of law-abiding American citizens.  Case in point,  Jack Markell and the Delaware Legislature are once again trying to "close the gun-show loophole."

SB39 is not an outright private sale ban like so many of these so-called "gun show loophole" bills.   Instead it would ban private sales only at gun show venues and on the premisis.  So, do your private sale in the gun show parking lot and it's a crime, but walk across the street to another parking lot and you're in the clear.  It's pretty clear that this is nothing more than "feel good" legislation that'll do nothing but infringe upon the rights of Delaware gun owners.

If anti's have shown us one thing it's that they won't stop here. Jack Markell nor the gun-grabbers sponsoring this bill have presented any evidence that this is a problem in need of fixing.  They've shown no evidence that DE's violent criminals are getting guns at our gunshows, nor have they shown proof that such a proposal would do anything beyond making it more difficult for you and I to buy/sell lawfully owned property.

The entire state has two small gun shows per year.  Were this law to pass it would have no impact on crime in Wilmington and next we'd hear how we need to ban the dangerous "private sale" loophole throughout the state.

A liberal Democrat pushing gun control?  This is my shocked face :O

Quote of the Day

“Jack’s proposals are about our families, about our children and about our future..... You can’t have stronger families without safer children, and the protections Jack will support as governor will keep guns out of the hands of criminals and out of the hands of children. These are common-sense steps Delaware must take to ensure that firearms do not land in the wrong hands.”

-Brady Campaign Founder Sarah Brady

Looks like she's ecstatic about potentially having a gun-grabbing governor. Just look at how buddy buddy she and Jack Markell are already.

(Sadly my comment on Markell's blog had some glaring grammatical errors. I've got to remember to proofread before I hit submit.)

Color Me Surprised

Remember this post? Well I stand corrected. Jack Markell actually signed SB139 into law.

What I don't get is why Delaware has a Firearms Transcation Approval Program in the 1st place.

If it's illegal it can't happen....

If it's illegal then people can't do it. That seems to be the belief of everyone's favorite "commonsense" anti-gunner.

In the real world criminals get guns and ammo on the black market. Restricting the legal market doesn't hinder their abilities. This felon on probation in New Castle had 31 guns and 10K rounds of ammo. Clearly if we just banned private sales and instituted a waiting period he wouldn't have been able to get any of these. Right. Somehow I highly doubt this buy went down to his local FFL or to the one small gun show in Delaware to get these firearms.

I'm looking at you Jack Markell. Felons like this laugh at your recent gun control proposals, just like they laugh at the dozens of gun laws they're already breaking.

Criminals & Violent Encounters

Some of you may already know this, but the FBI has conducted studies about criminals and violent encounters with law enforcement. It is titled "Violent Encounters: A Study of Felonious Assaults on Our Nations Law Enforcement Officers." Much of what is contained in this study directly contradicts the lies spouted by anti-gun groups and by anti-gun politicians like President Obama and AG Holder. Much of it reflects that which the pro-gun, pro-rights crowd has been saying for years.

You really should read the whole thing, however several things stuck out at me from chapter 4 of the study. I'll bullet them below.

* None of the offenders regularly carried their handguns in a holster

* Offenders employed knives to kill members of the general public more than they used rifles and shotguns combined.

* Of the 33 handguns used to assault officers in the current study, 32 were obtained illegally

Links to study are here

So, from point number 1 we know that these folks are not OC'ers nor CCW holders. From number 2 we know that not only is the weapon used largely irrelevant to public safety, but that "Assault weapon bans" are completely and utterly useless. Hell, based on the findings perhaps we need "common sense knife control" instead of gun control.  From number 3 we know that, surprise, surprise, violent criminals aren't getting guns legally.

Rest assured, when you hear bigots like Jack Markell or ANY chief of police tell you that some gun control measure is needed for "trooper safety" they are lying to you.  The kind of asshole criminals who will shoot at cops don't give a lick about all of the strict gun control laws they're breaking.*

*Straight from page 10 in chapter 4 you have offenders explaining two simple things that anti-gunners refuse to acknowledge.  One, that it is trivially easy for criminals to get guns on the streets (as easy as getting drugs one offender said)  Two, and I quote "Fuck gun laws. I never gave a shit about the gun laws that are on the books."

He needed killin'

Some people just need killin'.  I wish this monster had been leaking from a bunch of neat little holes at the beginning of his "journey."  Instead he put a young through a kind of terrifying, day-long ordeal I can't even begin to comprehend.*

People like Sarah Brady, our liberal governor Jack Markell, and anyone who opposes OC and shall-issue CCW in the state of Delaware should be ashamed of themselves.  They should have to stand face to face with women who have suffered like this and say "We are going to dedicate ourselves to making it harder for you to carry a gun for self-defense."

Oh, and the abductions occurred in broad daylight in a good area not far from my apartment, with at least one rape occurring in the Christiana Mall** parking lot.  A lot of good police and mall security presence at the Mall did this woman.

Stories like these are a big part of the reason I abhor the "just give them what they want" line of reasoning.  What if the thing the sick, violent predator wants is you?

*two women actually.
** Christiana Mall is anti-gun of course.

"High" Capacity

So Markell, Biden, and the rest of the leftists want to limit pistols to 10 rounds and rifles to 5 rounds, banning any magazines that hold more than that, among other things.

No legislation is written yet, but just to show the absurdity of these arbitrary limits on capacity, here's a few rifles that would be considered "high-capacity" to these asshats.

Swiss K-31 - 6 round capacity
M1 Garand - 8 round capacity
Carcano - 6 round capacity

I'll never understand the "you only need X number of rounds to hunt" people.  Especially the gun owning hunters who really think their guns will be spared from future bans.  If anything more than a 5 shot rifle is a "weapon you go to battle with" that doesn't belong in  the hands of Delaware citizens, what makes people actually think the gun banners won't come for their 6, 8, 10 etc. round bolt action rifles or lever actions?

UCR Data Is Out

Thirdpower informs us that the 2007 FBI Uniform Crime Report is out. Good, that'll help me supplement the Markell post I discussed in the post just below this.

I love these things, because they're invaluable for proving anti's wrong. Well that and they get incredibly pissed off when you cite actual facts to back up what you're saying.

Here's a quick fact that pertains to Delaware.

1. There were more strong arm robberies in the First State (745) than robbery with a firearm (691) - See table here.

Looks like what we really need is to lock up the criminals, whether they use guns or hands and fists.
