Friday Funny

"BOSTON - President Barack Obama won the 2010 Boston Marathon on Friday In a stunning decision designed to encourage him to quit smoking and keep running to stay in shape. The Boston Athletic Association announced their decision to name Obama the winner even though the race will not be run until 18 April 2010 because the president has the desire to win and has good intentions. In announcing Obama the winner the president of the BAA said, "We must rise above the out dated measurements of what a person actually has accomplished and focus instead on their intentions and what they say they will do. Intentions and talk are what drive the world." Congressman Frank Barney and Chinese Vice President XI Jinping seated nearby reiterated these words. The BAA also noted that no president has won the marathon before. This would set a good example for all future presidents of the United States and for other countries."

Comment by Michael Knight on page 1 here. (his comment preceeding that was funny as well.)

AR Building

TD contemplates his 1st AR-15 build and his thoughts closely mirror my own.

If I had the funds for another AR right now here's what I'd buy

CMMG Mid-length upper, Magpul MBUS flip up rear sight, and a Spike's lower with M4 stock. The upper & rear BUIS runs about $600 and a lower is probably $200-$250 total, so for around $850 bucks you've got yourself a pretty decent rifle.

Quote of the Day - Idiocy

"What this boy did, presumably the first time he got his hands on a real gun, which to an 8-year-old must feel a lot heavier than any of the plastic toys he'd have been used to, was to point it at the head of the nearest female and pull the trigger. It could all be a coincidence, kids learn some of this stuff from television, but it is a type of sad metaphor for the country at large, don't you think. Guns are bad news for women"

The incident MikeB refers to is one where an 8 year old boy gets a hold of mom/dad's gun and shoots his 2 year old sister with it. The pure lack of cognitive ability needed to come to the conclusion MikeB does is astounding, even for him. In what world is an 8 year old pointing a gun at his sister and pulling the trigger a result of misogyny or violence against women? Does he really think an 8 year old boy pointed a gun at his little sister and pulled the trigger because she was a female?

Also, you'll notice that MikeB fails to mention that the parents were felons in possession. He plays if off like they're your average, run of the mill, law-abiding gun owner. Typical anti-gun tactics.

Sometimes with the things you hear anti's say you simply can't help but point & laugh. This is one of those times.

Bacon

A friend of mine told me today that Woodside Farm Creamery sells bacon ice cream!

I simply must try this!

Quote of The Day - Militia

"As civil rulers, not having their duty to the people duly before them, may attempt to tyrannize, and as the military forces which must be occasionally raised to defend our country, might pervert their power to the injury of their fellow-citizens, the people are confirmed by the next article in their right to keep and bear their private arms."

-Tench Coxe - Philadelphia Federal Gazette - June 18, 1789

- And yet some people will continue to insist that the words of the founders were collective in nature in regards to the 2nd Amendment. The "collective rights" interpretation just won't die.

Coupons

Bass Pro Shops has a promo for $20 off orders of $100 or more.

That makes for a decent price on 9mm bulk packs for those of us who refuse to buy ammo at Walmart.

Quote(s) Of The Day - Bigotry Edition

All come courtesy of Laci the Dog, whose blog I was unfortunate enough to stumble upon via MikeB. Apparently she's MikeB's new best bud, which is appropriate given what I've seen in 5 minutes at her blog. She claims to be an accomplished lawyer, using the condescending "argument to authority" on a regular basis, clings to the "collective rights" viewpoint, and is wildly anti-gun despite claiming to be a gun owner and CCW holder herself. Oh, and there are no comments on her site.

Now, on to the good stuff. Is it sad that I'm no longer surprised just how downright vile anti-gunners can be?

#1

"Hey, I don't mind you having guns. In fact, I hope you gun cretins all shoot yourselves and make the world a better place just like Melanie did. No, that's not hate, just a sincere desire to see a better world, which this will be without your sorry arses preventing proper gun laws from being adopted."

#2

"Shit, her husband used his own gun to kill her.....As you know, I was hoping that Scott would have grabbed Melanie's gun and popped her with it.....Anyway, two less gun owning idiots on this planet."

#3

"I am sorry, but I don't feel too much regret since looking at her smug face made me want to grab her gun and pop a cap in her ass as well.... it would be funny as heck if Hain was shot with her own gun. I am hoping that her husband turned her own gun against her......Most concealed carry idiots make me want to grab their guns and pop a cap in their sorry moronic arses."

# 4

"I only rejoice that someone who was a fool has been removed from this earth and I wish that the rest of you idiots would see sense, no matter how foolish that hope might be."

I had been responding to her inane arguments over at MikeB's, but after seeing this why bother? There's no point having any type of discussion with despicable creatures like Laci, the best you can do is expose their repulsive bigotry.

Aww, Laci responds in my comments section on January 19, 2010, further proving my point.

You people are such assholes. But you''re too fuckin' stupid to realise that you're assholes.

I'll take that as a compliment coming from someone who penned the vile, bigoted and despicable quotes I've highlighted above.

Is Sainthood Next?

President Obama already received a Nobel Peace prize for talking about peace. Perhaps the Pope will declare Obama a Saint in a couple of months after he's made a few speeches about ending world hunger or AIDS in Africa?

Why not? After all he was "The Messiah" during his Presidential campaign.

Fighting Back Works

even if you don't have a gun. Two teens get robbed at gunpoint, one grabs a bat from his car and fights back. I know of at least one person who keeps a baseball bat in the car because she can't carry in her state, even in a vehicle.

"The 19-year-old and 16-year-old victims had just gotten cash from an ATM and returned to their car when the alleged gunman approached them, tried to strike up a conversation and then pointed a gun at the pair.

The gunman then took some cash from one of the victims, who grabbed the assailant’s gun. A struggle ensued.

The other victim, meanwhile, armed himself with a baseball bat and got out of the car.He started to hit the robber with the bat as the two men were struggling over the gun, which turned out to be a BB-gun that resembled a semi-automatic weapon."

Hain's Case

It appears that Hain's lawsuit against Sheriff DeLeo for revocation of her permit will go forward. DeLeo deserves to be punished for his actions and Hain's unfortunate death should not let him off the hook.

Furthermore, winning a judgment would go a long way towards giving the Hain's children a better future. Obviously money cannot heal the emotional scars and the heavy burden they will carry with them for the rest of their lives, but it could at least provide them with a more secure future.

Meleanie Hain

Meleanie Hain has died in an apparent murder suicide. My condolences go out to her family and especially her young children. Sebastian has more.

I am truly disgusted to see despicable anti-gun folks jumping on this tragedy to bash an innocent victim and push their agenda. Some people don't have a shred of decency. We're seeing comments like those below over at PennLive.

"Well at least she wasn't shot at a soccer game" or

"Her "constitutional right" put her six feet under....Why should we have respect? I have no respect for people who don't realize the danger of bringing a loaded gun to a kids' ball game. i have no respect for people who think they can get attention by pulling ridiculous stunts. I have no respect for people who think they have the right to intimidate others with threats of violence. By packing heat, you're implicitly saying "treat me with the respect I feel I deserve or I'll blow your brains out." People like that deserve no respect."

What happened here doesn't have anything whatsoever to do with her open carrying at soccer games, yet even in her death people can't help but bash her for choosing to exercise her rights.

Look. Two people are dead in what by all accounts appears to be a standard domestic violence case and now three young children are orphans. These things happen far too often in our society, but can't we all show some civility and respect for the dead rather than blaming them, the guns, or "Constitutional Rights?"

One thing is sadly ironic thing about the inevitable onslaught we'll see from the anti's over this incident. All of the gun control proposals they advocate for would have had the effect of disarming Meleanie, but not her husband, the apparent shooter who was also a law enforcement officer.

No doubt the Brady Campaign will be along soon to dance in her blood. It's what they do.

Update - Sebastian has examples of some more despicable coverage by the media.

FTC Rules

A quick look at the new FTC rules for bloggers has me thinking the Feds are completely insane. I hope they don't expect a disclosure statement each and every time a blogger mentions / reviews a product.

Let's say I get a free sample of cologne at the mall, I come home and mention here that it smells like donkey ass. Could I be fined for failing to disclose that I got the cologne for free rather than paid for it myself?

Hell, I did a review of Comp-Tac's MTAC holster on this site and mentioned that they also sent me a package of smarties candy for free. Had I failed to mention that then I would have reviewed their product without disclosing that they sent me free stuff, which come Dec. 1 would be a no-no.

Deal Alert - Car Nuts

Tire Rack is having a closeout sale on Hankook RS-2's. I just picked up a set to be put on the Mazda in April.

I should probably talk my grandpa into buying some rears for his Mustang GT. Max performance summer tires are huge overkill for him, but his current tires are summers and are almost shot. I don't believe in putting all-season tires on a sportscar that will never be driven in winter. I don't think he can do much better than $81 per tire shipped for 245/45/17's, summers or all-season's. That said, my poppop usually buys the cheapest used tires he can find for his cars, a practice I consider terribly unsafe.

He Lied?

It seems Joe Wilson was telling the truth when he called President Obama a liar during his healthcare speech.
"Senate Finance Committee Democrats rejected a proposed requirement that immigrants prove their identity with photo identification when signing up for federal healthcare programs."

Stating that illegals will not be covered is meaningless if you're going to vote down verification / enforcement requirements. I have to provide 2 forms of ID to buy a gun for christsakes, and that's a Constitutionally protected right.

Quote of The Day

“The spirit of resistance to government is so valuable on certain occasions that I wish it to be always kept alive. It will often be exercised when wrong, but better so than not to be exercised at all.”

-Thomas Jefferson in a letter to Abigail Adams, February 22, 1787

I wish those who constantly denigrate peaceful tea party protesters and open carriers would heed Jefferson's words. They seem very fitting given the current political climate. But what do I know, Jefferson and I are both probably "knuckle-dragging neanderthals" in the eyes of many of these folks.

Another Failure of Management

GM has made a whole gaggle of really shitty cars over the last few decades, but on the whole Saturn actually made decent cars. Sure, they weren't the greatest cars in the world, but they were innovative, competitively priced, fuel efficient, and more reliable than most of the crap cars GM put out. (the 4 cylinder Ecotec's were actually good motors)

So what does GM do? They kill them off. Great strategy GM, kill off the good brands. With the death of Saturn and Pontiac GM now has virtually no entry-level cars marketed to young people.

GM seems to have a penchant for screwing stuff up. I mean, as a car guy I hate that Toyota killed off the Supra and MR-2, but those were expensive, low-volume niche cars that did little to help the bottom line, so from a business standpoint you can't fault Toyota from killing them. GM makes quite a few really shitty cars and there's far too much overlap within divisions. Hell just look at the GMC line vs. Chevy SUV's. Why not start there instead of killing off a brand that actually offered something different? I guess that would make too much sense.

I also noticed on the news last night that GM stated this would have no effect on employees of Saturn, closing of dealerships, or service & parts for Saturn vehicles. If the company is now dead and no one buys it those dealerships will close eventually. I'm guessing that GM dealers will still provide parts & service for Saturn's but who knows.

It seems to me that GM would have been better off killing their GMC line. Now that the Government owns them we can expect more bad business decisons from GM in the future.

H/T to Jay, who already said this.
