Excuse Me

You'll have to excuse me for the seven posts I threw up today. I had quite the case of mental vomit. Amazing, all that upchucking and I didn't even watch Obama's speech. That's probably for the best, lest I end up with a serious Barry induced illness....

Or maybe it was the Soul Food?

Behind Enemy Lines

No, I'm not talking about Owen Wilson getting shot down. I'm talking about fighting for our rights deep inside enemy territory, in the land of the dirty hippie. You have to love this gun rights poster in San Francisco featuring Oleg's work.

Great job Oleg and Calguns! Keep up the good work!

Wish Them Luck

I hope all goes well Weer'd.

And wow, one of the zombies shares a striking resemblance to a friend of mine. Creepy.

Reeducation?

The Obama Administration says it's time to "reeducate" the public on Obamacare.

"Reeducate?" Oh really? Here's a suggestion for Obama. Start the reeducation with every single member of Congress who voted for that unconstitutional behemoth of a bill. Hell, most of them readily admit they didn't bother to read it before signing it into law anyway, so the reeducation should be easy.

As for me, well I already read it, I know what's in it, and I do not want it. Good luck reeducating me, particularly if it involves camps or cattle cars.

Quote of The Day - Teaching New Shooters

"She has decided that I am the one she trusts to teach her, and I will not betray that trust by scaring her. We should all remember that when someone asks us to teach them. They are trusting us to be their guide into a new world. We should commit to guiding them in gently and with all the knowledge we can impart. I would love for her to decide that it is fun and something she wants to do regularly. If it’s fun, she’ll practice. Teaching someone to shoot is more than just showing them how to make a gun go bang. Don’t teach them how to use a gun; teach them to be shooters."

- Jennifer - On bringing someone terrified of guns into the "gunnie" fold.

This is an eloquent bit from Jennifer. Every new shooter is different, so tailoring your tactics to each person is essential to having a successful 1st range trip. For many newbies it's a journey that starts with much trepidation, so take it easy, slow if needed, and most importantly, make it FUN. Don't overload them with information.

I look at my mother and am shocked at the difference. A few years ago she was afraid of ammunition. Earlier this year she's telling people how much fun she had shooting guns and she's got an AR-15 on the kitchen counter helping me pull off the handguards.

A Guinness A Day....

Keeps the doctor away? Maybe not, but research shows it'll keep you living longer than those who don't enjoy the Irish nectar of the Gods.

I'm squarely in the "moderate drinker" category these days. I also drink Guinness often, which is supposed to be significantly more healthy than watery piss / Natural Light.

Drink to your health & knock back a cold one tonight! Hell have 6 or 7, it's healthier for you than abstaining.

Anti-Gunners - Fantasy vs. Reality

Robb discusses "Stand Your Ground" laws, which anti-gun folks often erroneously refer to as "shoot first" or "license to kill" laws.

The reality of course is that such laws only remove the legal burden from the victim. He (or she) is no longer forced to take a particular action (retreat) regardless of circumstances, in the event of an attack.

That said, anti-gunners don't live in reality. They want to believe that these are "shoot first" laws that let criminals literally get away with murder.

Celebrate! Celebrate!

Go wish Brigid a happy birthday! As usual, her words flow off the paper like no one else on my blogroll.

50! I could've sworn she was in her early / mid 40's. I guess Guinness, a wonderful lab, and flattering genes help keep you young.

Ammo Testing Videos

Lots of ammo testing videos seen here. They even have some expansion testing of the Federal XM40HA I picked up a while back.*

*I like to have a bit of .40S&W on hand for the P229R even though I prefer .357SIG. It seems logical to have some ammo on hand as long as I have the .40 barrel.

Hardwired

Researchers have found that looking at beautiful women is a natural, instinctual reflex for men. OK, but did they really need to do a study to tell us this?

From the article,

"This amounts to conclusive physiological justification for the male practice of staring at female breasts. "

So we can't help but stare at those, but what if you're an ass man? Also, what about women? They oogle too.

Don't Piss Us Off

NSSF is reporting that the Obama administration, through the EPA, is seeking to ban lead ammunition. Is Obama really this goddamn stupid? Why would you do something guaranteed to piss off virtually every gun owner in the country just a few months before the elections? We may be somewhat marginalized in a few states, but gun owners are a large contingent in most of the country. It's not wise to piss us off right before election time, especially in an election where Democrats are likely to see heavy losses.

It seems to me that many of Obama's policies are a result of both sheer incompetence and malice. He's an elitist, arrogant academic who's far out of touch with most of America. I think that accounts, at least in part, for the systemic incompetence we're seeing from his administration.

Let's face it, a ban on lead ammo would cripple the firearms industry and the shooting sports. If Obama thinks that millions of gun owners are going to stand for that he is sorely mistaken. The Administration, and Democrats in general are already facing a huge backlash, which makes this tone-deaf proposal all the more puzzling. I suspect many Dems are cursing the Administration under their breath and will immediately try to distance themselves from Obama. Republicans should seize on this and use it as extra ammo in campaign ads from now till November.

To give you an idea of just what banning lead would do to ammo prices, let's take a look at Ammoman. Lead-Free frangible 9mm is almost twice the price of traditional lead FMJ 9mm. The increase would be worse for those not buying in bulk. Could you afford to shoot if ammo prices doubled or tripled overnight and stayed there? If 9mm range ammo ran $25 per box or more or a case of lead free .40 S&W cost $600 or $700. Is there any defensive ammo that doesn't contain lead?

Guns chambered in oddball calibers or old military calibers would become worthless wall ornaments. How many ammo companies would tool up to produce lead-free ammo in 8mm Steyr, 7.5 French, or 6.5 Arisaka?

I wish I could say that Obama couldn't possibly be stupid enough to even consider this, but at this point further asshattery from his administration seems like a foregone conclusion. Obama has managed to turn virtually every situation into a boondoggle. He makes me pine for George Bush, who was a big government statist and an embarrassment. Hell, Bill Clinton looks shockingly competent, moderate, even honest by comparison.

Some folks would do well to remember that their are millions of rounds of lead ammo in civilian hands at the moment. There's only one way it's getting turned in, and I don't think anyone wants to see that. Molon Labe. Oh, and what Tam said.

More Threats From The Left

Boy, if I had a nickel for every time folks on the Left threatened violence against their political opposition I'd be rich! Hell, you could probably run a blog devoted to violent Leftists and nothing else.

And yet the MSM will tell you that Sarah Palin, Rush Limbaugh, and the "evil right wingers" are the bad guys and they'll hyper focus on any Tea Party criticism of Obama now matter how benign. Sadly, this behavior is nothing new. It's par for the course for many of those on the Left.

Quote of The Day - Hoping for Bloodshed

"Unfortunately, it's going to take a few more Columbines and Virginia Techs to get our elected officials off their asses and close the loophole, because they won't respond to logic."

- Delaware Liberal Contributor "MJ"

This is a sentiment you see expressed by anti-gunners fairly often. They're sad pandas who have lost the intellectual and factual debate. They are stuck hoping for tragedy and bloodshed to take place so that they can exploit it in an effort to shove gun control down our throats

Of course the evil "loophole" MJ and his moonbat ilk want closed is not a "loophole" at all. It is simply the ability for two law-abiding Delawareans to engage in lawful intrastate commerce. We're talking about the sale of a good which both parties may legally possess. MJ wants to force me to jump through hoops and go through a government intermediary in order for me to sell a Sig to someone like Rob. Two people with CCW permits transferring ownership of a firearm privately! Oh the horror!

You'll note that these kinds of sales are currently taking place illegally between prohibited persons everyday. It's already a felony for both parties when they do it. As such, closing the "loophole" has no impact whatsoever on the black market arms trade, but it does prevent upstanding citizens from selling legal goods. That of course is the point. Gun control has never been about violent criminals, rather it's about pressing the boot down further to control the rest of us.

What "Recovery?"

New home sales have hit a record low and jobless claims are at their highest since November. Surely this is proof that we're in an economic recovery and that the government spending money as fast as possible is an excellent way to get us out of this recession.

Of course Obama will just say "It would have been far, far worse if we hadn't done X" which is nothing more than an unprovable catch-all cop out that attempts to absolve he and the Dems of responsibility for this mess.

An Open Carry Win in Michigan

Open carry advocates in Michigan won another small battle for the 2nd Amendment. They got the city commission of Royal Oak to remove a ban on firearms at the Labor Day Arts, Beats & Eats festival.

This is how we win at the local level. Is there some risk involved in pressing the issue? Sure there is, there's always a chance of failure, but you have no chance of success if you don't try. If we don't fight to get such restrictions removed then we end up losing our rights through attrition anyway. The civil rights war will be fought one small battle at a time. Kudos to the citizens of Michigan for winning this one.

Even The "True Believers" Are Sad Pandas

The Liberal "true believers" in the Delaware blogosphere are sad because Obama hasn't delivered all of the Hope & Change they expected.

I predicted back during his candidacy that the reality of Obama vs. the dream of Obama was going to cause quite a bit of disillusionment among liberals. (not exactly a grand, prescient prediction) It happening now, not just on a national level, but among the leftists right here in the 1st state. That makes me happy.

Sign of The Times

We had our yearly staff evaluations at work today. As usual I did well "exceeds expectations.".....blah blah blah.

My immediate boss and our office administrator both recommended I receive a raise + bonus, but unlike previous years no such raises have been approved yet.

It certainly would not shock me if no raises and/or bonuses were approved this year given the state of the economy. But hey, I still have a job and my review went well. I'm thankful for that.

Now let's vote these bums out before they wreck the economy any further! November is only a few months away!

Damn Hoarders!

You hoarders are all driving up the price of bacon! Go buy some .380 ACP or something and leave my bacon alone! What's next, a 200% increase in the price of Guinness?

Also, sorry for the lack of posting. I was at the beach and didn't have the foresight to throw up some scheduled posts.

Sigs Rejected

As Saysuncle noted earlier, the GAO rejected Sig Sauer's proposal to outfit ATF agents with Sig P250's chambered in .40 S&W.

Instead of saying "yeah, our P250's suck, maybe we should improve them" they resort to whining about the government testing standards. This portion of the GOA report jumped out at me.
"Sig Sauer also contends that ATF placed too great an emphasis upon reliability in determining which offers should continue to phase III. In this regard, Sig Sauer argues that reliability was only one of a number of elements to be considered in the live-fire assessment, and notes that reliability was not identified as having any more importance than the other elements."

Sig is whining about too much emphasis being placed on reliability? Seriously? It would seem to me that if that criteria isn't met then how the gun faired in the rest of the testing becomes a moot point. The shooters doing the evaluations felt that the P250's had reliability issues. The plain numbers from the tests show us that the Sigs had more stoppages than the other guns tested. An unreliable gun is worthless and frankly, the P250 has had reliability issues since it was first released.

Without question, quality and reliability at Sig has suffered in past few years. (Disclaimer, my newest Sig is from 2005, oldest is from 1979) Sig needs to quit the whining and get back to the "To hell and back reliability" they're known for. Maybe if Sig had put up something better than the craptastic P250 for testing they wouldn't be in this position?

A Little Taste of England

When pubs in the UK ban glassware because it can be used as an offensive weapon I just sigh and wonder how they were ever "Great." When it happens right here in the U.S.A. I get a little worried.

What is it about nanny-state Liberalism and the constant need to focus on inanimate objects rather than people?

Ah Liberalism, ain't it great?

Also, bars that have enough of a violence problem amongst patrons that they feel they must ban glass are not the kinds of places I'd want to visit. I'd also rather not drink a Rusty Nail or whiskey on the rocks out of a plastic cup.

Thanks for the ray of sunshine Jay G.

Quote of The Day - Take Your Pick

"Which is it, Øbama supporters? Is the Teleprompter Jesus a liar, or just an idiot who can’t tell his father from his grandfather?"

- Jay G. - in comments at Alan's

Obama is certainly a liar. The man makes Bill "I did not have sexual relations with that woman" Clinton look like an honest man. Obama has lied repeatedly, consistently, and with ease. What's worse is that the media gave him a free ride through all those lies while they were punch drunk on Hope & Change.

Thank god for alternative media. Otherwise there'd be no one to point out his arrogance and blatant, despicable lies. The media latched onto Bush everytime he misspoke but with Obama it's another story. Without the internet we would have no record of most of his lies.

I know very little about the service records of my grandparents but I do know they both served in WWII and I wouldn't confuse my father with either of them. That said, Obama obviously has issues remembering his family history, including which concentration camp his uncle helped liberate.

Don't worry though, nothing to see here. I'm sure it was just a teleprompter malfunction.

Essential Tools

My previous post on this subject was more of a "look what I got post than something substantive, so I thought I'd elaborate a bit on tools of the sharp & stabby variety.

Sharp cutting implements have been used by my fellow humans for millenia to perform a variety of tasks. They're as natural in the hands of a human as claws on a cat or wings on a bird. It only makes sense that I would follow the basic custom of billions of humans before me. Why would any rational person not own and carry the contemporary equivalent of tool which have coincided with almost the entire span of human evolution?

Carrying a knife is basic common sense, on par with having something by which to tell the time. For the last 10 years at least I've rarely been without a knife. Even further back than that I can remember carrying my Boy Scout Swiss Army Knife to school. Of course this was in the pre-"zero-tolerance" age and I wasn't a disciplinary problem. These days I might be suspended, expelled, and even charged with a crime for carrying it.

I'm not sure I considered the criminal implications of carrying a pocket knife to until I was in my late teens. When you're a young kid carrying a knife given to you in Boy Scouts you don't think of it as a weapon. It had all kinds of cool gizmos, a bottle opener, two screwdrivers, scissors, tweezers, a toothpick. If I remember correctly the larger blade on a standard Swiss Army knife is actually 3.5", so I was actually committing a criminal offense for several years.

Prior to 9/11 I packed that Swiss Army knife in my carry-on luggage every time I flew. In those days I remember being in the cockpit during a commercial flight (my grandpa was an airline pilot) Yes folks, I was able to bring a knife on board the plane and enter the cockpit with permission. Now the TSA makes a big fuss if an 8 year old girl packs an electric toothbrush in her carry-on. How times have changed.

I lost that knife sometime during my Freshman year of college and purchased a SOG Flash II, only to find out later that it was illegal to carry. It violated both Delaware's ridiculous 3" blade length limit and our equally byzantine statute prohibiting folding knives with any type of assisted opening device. Later I purchased a Benchmade Mini Pika and Kershaw Vapor and carried one or both throughout my time at U of D.

Ah the world of Academia. It wasn't until college that I honestly recall being exposed to people with an abject fear of tools. (UD had many students from NJ...) Here's this well-mannered, shy but likeable guy who looks younger than he is and some people are reacting negatively to the fact that he's got a couple of knives. Inconceivable! As I've said before on this blog "Me? Dangerous lookng? You've got to be kidding me?"

There were times where I'd whip out the Benchmade to open a box and someone would comment to the effect of "what are you doing with THAT?" "Opening a box" I'd say sarcastically. (me, sarcastic... never!) I remember cutting dorm carpet to fit one move-in day and hearing a floormates mother exclaim that I had a knife (you know the tone) A few minutes later they were borrowing it. Yes, she was from New Jersey.

One other "incident" at Delaware which sticks out in my mind happened my Sophomore or Junior year after foot/ankle surgery. I was having physical therapy at UD's PT school, which meant I had mostly grad or undergrad students working on me. One day I'm on the mat and both pocket knives come out of my pockets. The girl working on me just stands there aghast, not wanting to touch my *evil knives.* The reaction was bizarre. You'd think a buttplug had fallen out of my pocket or I'd told her I enjoy beating up little kids. She later told me they made her feel "uncomfortable." Yes, small pocketknives in the closed position made her feel "uncomfortable" (and it wasn't me, she absolutely loved working with a young guy rather than geriatrics)

Later at Delaware I found I could maximize my time spent sleeping, drinking and enjoying the weather by grabbing dining hall meals to go. Once I started working at The Firm this was almost the only way to get lunch after class and still make it into the city in time for work. The problem? Take-out gives you plastic utensils. I got some weird looks eating lunch on a park bench, brick wall or water fountain with a plastic fork and a pocketknife. Interestingly enough everyone was quite happy I had a knife during times spent shotgunning beers. It sure beats trying to stick a hole in a can with a Bic pen.

But pocketknives can be used for far more than just a drinking aid. A good knife has a million different uses and is nice to have even if you're not using it daily. I have nothing against those who choose not to carry a knife, however I don't know why they'd choose to voluntarily handicap themselves. I guess they figure a resourceful tool user will be around to help them out.

I sincerely hope that the mindset of that PT student never takes hold here in America. If it does that means we'll have turned into the UK, where folks like this guy will claim that my carrying a pocketknife "endangers the safety of fellow citizens."

Three Words

"Just fight back."

Kudos to this woman for doing what was necessary to defend herself. Bite, claw, scratch, or gouge the scumbags eyes out, but do something! If she'd listened to the typical anti-gunner / police advice of "just give them what they want" she'd be a rape victim and would have to carry that burden for the rest of her life.........or worse, she'd be dead.

Hopefully the serious knee injury the intended victim inflicted upon this rapist will put him at a predatory disadvantage for the rest of his life.

When you forcibly enter someones home and try to harm them you deserve every bit of violence coming to you, whether it's in the form of fists, a bat, or multiple jacketed hollowpoints. I wish she'd beat his ass up a little more.

I don't have one damn ounce of sympathy for violent offenders. Not one. In fact, I'm happy to see harm come to them. I care only for the well-being of their intended victims.

Also, from the article,

"Shaking off the punch to her jaw she pushed him backwards and he fell into the stove.

"I grabbed the top of his head and pulled his shirt off. He went to go out the back door but I was standing there."

The scumbag hit her and as soon as he realized he was facing a fighter and not some meek, submissive victim, he tried to run. He won't be running again for a long time after this beating.

Jealous

Plenty of other bloggers have been talking about knives and unfortunately I can't own most of them. Here in Delaware we can't own anything but an ordinary folder. If it's assisted opening it's illegal to own, much less carry. We're also limited to a 3 inch blade length when carrying folders.

Why is that the case? Oh, because the definition of "Switchblade" in the Delaware criminal code is unusually broad.
§ 1446. Unlawfully dealing with a switchblade knife; unclassified misdemeanor.

"A person is guilty of unlawfully dealing with a switchblade knife when the person sells, offers for sale or has in possession a knife, the blade of which is released by a spring mechanism or by gravity."
You might be able to argue that this statute prohibits only true auto-openers, but I'm not willing to risk it.

Newsweek Was Right

Newsweek was at least partially right when they said "we are all Socialists now." I say partially because I am not, nor will I ever be a fucking Socialist or any kind of collectivist Commie. Such systems always fail. They destroy individual liberty and create misery and suffering.

70 members of Congress are Socialists intent on destroying this country. If you're so damn fond of Socialism move to a Socialist country and leave my fucking country alone! If you're one of these 70 who want to shit all over our founding principles and take this great nation down a path where the individual is pillaged for the sake of "society" I will do everything legally within my power to ensure that you fail.

I hope many of you like being former Congressmen. Don't let the door hit you on the way out.

.22 ing Around With A Bersa

I mentioned the the Firestorm FS22, the .22 version of the Bersa / Firestorm line of pistols in a previous post and thought this little gun deserved a post of its own.

When I first started looking for a .22 pistol I originally considered the Walther P22. After reading about reliability issues and learning that it had a potmetal (zinc alloy) slide I decided against the Walther. I wanted something as easy to field strip as my P6, so a Ruger MKIII was out. I knew Laura and Breda both had .380 Bersa Thunder's and were happy with them. I'd also handled some Thunder's in a local gun shop and liked them.

It would take several months of scouring Gunbroker before I'd actually find a lightly used one for sale by an older man in Maryland. I think I paid around $250. I can emphatically say it's been $250 well spent.

The FS22 comes with rubber finger groove grips w/ finger rest, 3 dot contrast sights, and a key for the S&W style integral lock that I've never used. The sights are a bit small compared to those on my Sigs but still more than adequate.

The Bersa has excellent ergonomics. The gun fits the hand and points naturally. Most of the controls are easily manipulated. Field stripping takes a matter of seconds, just push down the takedown lever and pull the slide up off the frame. Next remove the recoil spring from the barrel, which is fixed to the frame. That's it, you're done. It's so easy a caveman could do it!

The safety is slide mounted and acts by both disengaging the trigger and blocking the hammer. It also doubles as a decocker. Up is fire, down is safe. Pushing the safety lever past safe decocks the hammer with a loud, disconcerting "snap" as the hammer falls with full force. (or maybe I'm just used to Sigs) The trigger is traditional DA/SA style and while it's nothing to write home about it's not by any means a bad trigger. You could do far worse.

Personally I use the safety on the FS22 only as a decocker. I almost never carry this gun and when I do it's hammer down, one in the pipe with the safety off. I dislike thumb safeties on DA/SA guns anyway and simply not using the safety make things simpler for this Sig guy.

I can't say that this little gun has been entirely reliable. It absolutely loves CCI Mini Mags and does well with Federal bulk pack, but tends to choke on cheaper, standard velocity ammo. This is especially true towards the end of a range trip, but a couple drops of CLP usually clears things right up. I generally buy high velocity .22lr anyway so this is almost a non-issue for me. I'd also point out that my FS22 doesn't like "high velocity" Winchester Wildcat. This isn't really a knock against the gun, since most .22 autos are ammo sensitive.

It's truly a shame Bersa doesn't market these more. I'm almost certain they'd sell like hotcakes.

As a side note, I still remember shooting the FS22 on my very 1st range trip. I had no gun lube, only Castrol Syntec 5W-20 motor oil. I used far too much and it ran out everywhere but the gun still shot fine.

An Interesting concept

I really want to try some of the Remora holsters Mike reviewed a few weeks ago. I'll admit to being more than a bit skeptical that they'd stay in place without being attached to a belt, especially on someone with my build.

I think I might need to order one or two just to find out.

Wilmington Caves!

The Wilmington Housing authority finally suspended it's ban on firearms in public housing. I guess they finally realized this was a fight they'd lose.

I can' t explain how happy it makes me to see bigots get knocked down and liberty prevail in my own state!

I have to highlight one statement from resident Diana Dorn, and I quote,

"Some of the young folks in here just don't give a damn," she said, and will cause trouble with a gun. If a resident is worried about safety, she said, "Get a bat."

If the young 19-20 year olds "just don't give a damn" then this changes nothing for them. If they don't give a damn and are going to cause trouble with guns they're going to do it regardless of whether the housing authority bans firearms or not.

As for the advice to "get a bat" for protection, uh hell no. Sorry, but citizens should be able to use more effective tools, particularly since "the young folks just don't give a damn." I own an aluminum bat, but that's not what sits within arms reach when I go to bed at night. That's what a Sig Sauer's for.

The fight's not over and I'm sure that some of the WHA's other restrictions will have to be overturned in court. This proposed restriction in particular is definitely unconstitutional.

"He also objected to a proposed requirement that anyone who has a gun in a WHA building be prepared to produce a permit showing he is allowed to carry it."

Ownership of firearms does not require a CCDW permit in Delaware, so residents absolutely do not have to show a permit just because they have a gun in their residence. Furthermore, residents don't need a CCDW permit to open carry. You can't compel a person to produce a permit they don't need, simply because they're engaging in a lawful activity you don't like.

I really hope the NRA takes the WHA back to court immediately. I do not trust the WHA to simply suspend enforcement of their ban. It needs to be removed from the books and those responsible for the ban should be brought up on charges under Title 18 Section 242 for civil rights violations. I'm looking at you, WHA CEO Mike Krause and the WHA Board of Commissioners.

I'm sure this makes our local bigot Kavips a sad panda, which is fine by me. Not only was Kavips ignorant of the law, he was also wrong in his prediction. The bigots got their noses bloodied not the NRA.

Gang Violence

I'm watching a documentary on the history of gang violence in America. It's sad how little has changed in the last 40 years. The same basic "I want something and I'm gonna take it from you anyway I can" attitude is still the prevailing one among the most violent members of society. Such an attitude was, and still is impervious to reason.

By the way, in many of the robberies discussed the victims were murdered after giving up money and cooperating.

Quote of The Day - Journolist

"It was a network of high level opinion makers, united by a "progressive" vision for America. They believed that their superior judgement and insight, obligated them to present Americans with a view of reality, that they would be too stupid and reactionary to grasp unaided."

Trevor Loudon of New Zeal describing the nature of the now infamous "Journolist"

Bezmenov was right, and I fear that even things like this aren't enough to wake people up. Socialists are far too embedded in our government, media, and education. I suppose it'd be more accurate so say that Socialist ideals are embedded in those institutions.

I agree with Alan who notes that Socialism always fails but I'm not so confident that we, by virtue of being Americans, will simply not stand for the death that accompanies the collectivist ideal. Sure, Americans right now would not stand for it, but what about future generations?

Right now our biggest weapon is the free flow of information. Yes, academia and mainstream media have done an excellent job teaching the wonders of Socialism, but they have nothing in their arsenal that rivals the power of Al Gore's intertubes.

Socialism/Collectivism can only survive so long as a small group of people can control the message. Socialist states cannot survive unless they can keep people in and information out. That is increasingly difficult to do in the world we live in.

Even a soft Socialist state like the UK will eventually implode once the populace has been sucked dry of wealth, productivity, and the drive to succeed and innovate. That is an inevitable consequence of Socialism. It's not a matter of if but of when.

Let's Talk Sharpies!

We humans are tool users, and since we have opposable thumbs rather than sharp fangs or claws sharp cutting implements tend to come in handy.*

I can't think of a single gun blogger I've met who doesn't carry a knife (or a couple of em) on a daily basis. I own and carry a gun with the sincere hope that I'll never have to use it. My knives on the other hand get carried and used regularly.

Since I lost the 3" KaBar I bought at the NRA Convention in May and my Benchmade Mini Pika is really beaten up I decided to go on a little sharp & pointy shopping spree. It never hurts to have a handful of pocketknives, in case you lose a few or give them away. I also figured this was an opportunity to pick up a fixed blade knife, filling a gaping hole in my collection of bladed tools

*unless you live in the UK where humans are actually regressing.

According to anti-gunner logic these small blades make me a dangerous man. They're right! I once cut my hand using the Kershaw to shotgun beers back in college and I a few years ago a kitchen knife fell off the counter and landed point down in my big toe. Surely that along with criminal stabbings mean average citizens can't be trusted with simple cutting tools.

Top to bottom - CRKT Peck (keychain knife) Gerber Evo Jr., CRKT Drifter, CRKT Pazoda 2, and my old Kershaw Vapor. To the right is a KaBar USMC fighting knife.

Of course as luck would have it I found my little KaBar right after getting four new folders.

Simply Amazing

Some people cannot accept defeat. There's nothing they can't do if they put their mind to it. Jim Templeman is such a person.

Not only am I in awe that he's able to hold a firearm and shoot it well, but from the pictures it looks like he's taking ammo from the box and loading magazines with his feet! I wish there was video of Mr. Templeman. I'd be interested in seeing his mechanics, particularly how he racks the slide.

For All You Twilight Fans....

Vampires Suck! is coming out soon. Enough of that sparkly emo crap. It'll be interesting to see if Edward dies in this spoof, hopefully in some kind of grotesque Mortal Kombat "Fatality" manner.

My little sister has a Edward pillow case and a full-sized cardboard cutout of him in her room. *sigh* I really don't get it. I saw the 1st movie. It was completely unremarkable aside from being cheesy.

Where's That Stimulus Money?

The Federal government is spending money faster than Nicole Richie on a coke binge, yet in Arizona the Pinal County Sheriff is resorting to begging the public for money to buy AR-15's.

Since AR's are so easy to convert to full-auto M16's why can't Obama just snap his fingers, have the ATF swap parts out of a few M16's and send them down to the cops in Arizona? Obama's unicorns probably shit $200,000 per day anyway.

At least Sheriff Babeu understands one thing. If you need something immediately don't bother asking the Federal government. However, he should be asking his officers to purchase them rather than asking the public for donations. I know my brother had to buy his own. With deep military / LEO discounts it's not a huge expense. (certainly not $3K per gun)

The evil "assault weapons" that belong on foreign battlefields and not on our streets have magically transformed into "deputy rifles" when they're for police purposes. They're no longer baby-killing machines designed to be "spray fired from the hip". Nope, instead they're an effective self-defense weapon, and I quote,

“This is the weapon that they need to best protect themselves and to stop the threat continuing against the public."

That's the same reason most of us own our EBR's too. They're effective home/self defense firearms. Hell, my evil "assault weapon" is loaded with the same mags and ammo that the police use in their "deputy rifles."

Free Sigs?

Yup, It's time for the Sig Sweepstakes again.

This time you can win a P229 E2. I handled one of these at the NRA convention and really liked the new grips. They also brought back the full height slide serrations, the lack of which has always been one of those things I don't like about my P229.

Lack of Content

Sorry for the lack of content here lately folks. There's been no ranting, snarking, or squeeing at awesomeness, just some poorly and hastily thrown up posts. (and Sig porn) Ten days of migraines will do that, especially since I've never had a migraine in my life until now.

I even get to have a scan of my head, which would reveal nothing to you, my dear readers. You already know I'm not right in the head. :) Heh.

Signess!

The Signess, I has it!

Since I'm still feeling like crap and these headaches are kicking my ass I thought I'd post something Mike suggested some ways back. This little collection is now -1, since the P228 at the lower left corner has been sold to a family friend. The nice thing is I can always borrow it if I want to. (the other P228 gets lonely...)

The Violent Left....Again

Ho-hum. It's almost getting to the point where I'm surprised if folks on the Left refrain from calling for the death of those with dissenting opinions.

I used to be surprised when they said such thing such things, but it seems this is par for the course for collectivists. I can only imagine how the gun blogosphere would be vilified if some of us made a habit of calling for the death of those who dare question us.
