I just saw a commercial for ABC's Castle. Glock pointed in the air, finger firmly planted on the trigger.
Yeah I know that's the norm in Hollywood but it still irks me.

SEIU Thuggery - A Post From The Draft Doldrums
Hey look, I found a post in my draft folder that looks like it was pretty much complete, so here it is a whole month late! Enjoy.... or not.
Plenty of folks have already weighed in regarding SEIU's mob tactics protesting bank executives.
Jay G. brought up the inevitable question that enters ones mind when you see an angry mob of 500 liberal assholes descending upon someones private residence, and I quote,
"It raises a fundamental question, though, for those of us in the 2A community. At what point in a protest such as this are within our rights to light these bastards up?"
First and foremost, what the SEIU folks did here to Mr. Baer and his family was not a protest. It was a mob. A mob bussed to his house by a labor union and escorted there by the police. The police, the very people Mr. Baer would call to protect him in this situation, were actively aiding and abetting the thugs who stormed onto his property. If that doesn't scare the shit out of you I don't know what will.
I am sick and tired of this shit. I am sick of hearing about angry, violent, racist tea-partiers and "right-wing extremists." I'm sick of hearing about how dangerous we are, despite not engaging in any actual violence. I am sick of liberals screaming about violence when my fellow citizens peacefully open carry firearms, dare to quote the Founding Fathers, or god forbid utter the word "revolution" in any context. Most of all, I'm sick of the MSM shutting its yap the moment organized leftists protestors actually go and engage in the thuggery they've been trying to smear the right with for the past year. You want to see anger, violence, threats and racism? Look in the mirror!
Want to protest the banks? Fine, protest on the street outside their offices with signs. I won't agree with you, but I'll support your right to protest no matter how vehemently we disagree. I work in Wilmington, which is the corporate banking headquarters of the U.S., so I assure you I've seen plenty of protests, including some by SEIU folks. I support their rights, if not their message. This is still my America and dissent will always be patriotic.
That said, the right to protest does not give you carte blanche to protest wherever you like and act however you damn well please. My home is my castle (yes, even in Delaware) and I am well within my rights to tell you to get bent and get off my lawn. If you're there with 500 of your fellow assholes who refuse to leave that changes the dynamic of the situation significantly.
The moment you start sending mobs to people's homes is the moment I start looking at you with the same level of respect I'd show a gangbanger or common street thug. Come with your angry mob to my home or my neighbors home and you can expect to be treated just like that gangbanger or street thug. In fact, if this had happened in my neighborhood I'd spare a few pistols to make sure my neighbors were sufficiently armed.
SEIU thugs should do well to remember that "Get Off My Lawn" is a damn persuasive statement when there's a rifle behind it.

Quote of the Day - Incorporation
"In Heller, we held that the Second Amendment protects the right to possess a handgun in the home for the purpose of self-defense. Unless considerations of stare decisis counsel otherwise, a provision of the Bill of Rights that protects a right that is fundamental from an American perspective applies equally to the Federal Government and the States. We therefore hold that the Due Process Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment incorporates the Second Amendment right recognized in Heller."

On The Offensive
On the heels of a victory in McDonald, the SAF and Mr. Gura are challenging a North Carolina statute that prohibits both the keeping and bearing of arms during a state of emergency.
I would think this lawsuit should be a slam dunk for us, then again, in McDonald we saw four Supreme Court Justices display thinly veiled contempt for the 2nd Amendment as they simply read it out of existence to satisfy their own personal prejudices.
I wonder what the founders would say and do to those 4 justices? I suspect it'd be far more harsh than a simple tongue lashing.
In light of recent events, don't forget to join or donate to SAF if you haven't already.
As an aside,
* My posts & critique of the McDonald opinions are going to take longer than expected. I'm currently reading them, but the process of highlighting, & jotting down notes for a post is taking longer than expected and I'm a bit short on free time. There's a wealth of material (and so much blatantly wrong with the dissents that malice is the only rational explanation.)

Point & Laugh
That's all I can do when I see the kind of puerile behavior this woman has displayed on her blog and in comments.
That's one nice thing about lefty bloggers, their antics are humorous and good for a laugh sometimes. Sure, it's sad when you really think about it, but then rampant stupidity and ignorance in general are sad and yet they provide me with plenty of laughs. The world would be a pretty dull place without an abundance of stupid folks. Hell, shows like COPS and Jerry Springer wouldn't exist without them.
While I'll laugh at it I see no need to engage in it. I know that many leftists never do, but I grew out of adolescence many years ago (ok, I'm young, so not that many...)

You can always use A Little Bacon........ blog that is.
Funny stuff. I particularly liked this one and the nuclear holocaust one.
"DO NOT diet or exercise. This will shrink your stomach and hinder your ability to eat bacon."
Oh god, they have chicken fried bacon. I think I'm dying a little just looking at it.

Show Em' Some Love
I just joined the Second Amendment Foundation.
If you're on my blogroll and not yet a member you should join too! Show them some love for all the great work they did on McDonald. It's the least we can do.
McDonald Recap
.....Will have to happen tomorrow. D'oh. I don't have a working printer here and I got busy at work and forgot to print out the opinion, concurrence & dissents.
I guess I could read them online, but I prefer to print them out, grab a highlighter, and take notes in the margin.
Thanks Are in Order
I'd like to thank Alan Gottlieb of the Second Amendment Foundation, as well as the man himself, Mr. Alan Gura.
Today's landmark victory would not have been possible without all of their hard work.
I owe this man a million beers!
*I'll even forgive him for that shirt....

Bathroom Reading - A Meme
Lissa tagged me in a meme and I'm just now getting around to it. My apologies.
I don't always drink beer, but when I do I reach for Dos Equis...... Oh wait, what were we talking about again?
Oh, bathroom reading. I don't regularly read on the can, but I'm currently reading Ayn Rand's Capitalism: The Unknown Ideal so that's what goes with me.

YouDee!
A neophyte blogger takes the plunge. He's friends with Faln, a gunnie and a fellow UD Alumni. The trifecta of awesomeness! Go welcome him to the blogging world!
Never Again?
Not if this kind of crap continues...... and in Germany no less.
And we wonder why Jews in Israel are so well armed. They learned from history, but it appears that much of Europe as well as many on the American Left have not.
Don't let the government disarm you, especially if you're a Jew in Europe. Fight back!

Hmmm....
It seems I have a bunch of posts sitting in draft form. Some are pretty old, some not so old, and some are similar to something others have picked up and ran with.
I hate to have them just languish, so I guess I should finish em' up and maybe edit them to tie in with what's been said by others on my long ass blogroll.
I'm betting some will be downright terrible and I'll look at them and say "What the hell was I getting at?" Those will be junked. It's funny, sometimes you try to write something and it just doesn't quite "click," then you read something written by another blogger and the wheels start turning again.
Who knows? Maybe the mice running on their little wheels inside my noggin just get tired every now & then.

Angry
I saw this yesterday and it made me so angry that I really wasn't in the mood to blog about it. No one, amputees or otherwise, should be subjected to this, particularly not in full view of the public. Frankly, this kind of bullshit should make you angry. It should anger you that we subject those with disabilities to obtrusive, humiliating and ineffective "security procedures" all because some assholes hijacked a plane with boxcutters.
This woman was humiliated and her child scared to death because Americans want to "feel" safe. Meanwhile anyone who's ever been through the screening process knows that the TSA are a bunch of incompetent bums. This is about control. It's about turning us into good little submissive sheep. We get used to it, then the boot pressing down a bit more and we just sit back and take it without protest. That is, assuming we even realize the boot pressing harder upon our necks.
I received an e-mail at work a few weeks ago about a little boy who was a double amputee. I found his story and attitude inspirational and thought about posting it. I didn't because I thought it deserved something more substantive than a tiny blurb and a "here's an inspirational human interest story/pictures." The thought of that little boy having to constantly endure this kind of abuse at the hands of the government "for his own good" bothers me to no end. If they can make this woman and her child cry, make Breda cry, how will that awesome little boy respond to the abuse?
It's not just the screening process itself either. It's being singled out because you're "different." It wears on you, even if those doing it are doing it with the intention of helping. One of the things that anyone with a disability most wants is to be treated just like everyone else. Obviously that's just not possible in all cases and under all circumstances, but the last thing we need are government drones humiliating people and destroying their spirit. That of course is exactly what they want to do to us. Condition us, control us, and turn us into mindless "Baaa-ing" sheep. Fuck that, I'll drive whenever possible.
Quote of The Day - Compromise
"The reason I chose the title of this post is because we need to draw a line, or we’ll keep backing up. “Compromise” to a leftist means you giving them what they want and shutting up so they can brag about it. The solution is simple– don’t give them what they want, and don’t be quiet about it. Working with someone who wishes to destroy you and your way of life isn’t a value, it’s a lapdog mentality. Plus, there’s no satisfaction like seeing the blank expression a leftist gets when you get a really good zinger in on them– it’s like they lose connection with the hive mind for a moment…"
-Dixie Carpetbagger
The left defines "compromise" in a manner completely inconsistent from the dictionary definition. Funny how often they tend to do that with simple words. There can be no true compromise between two diametrically opposed parties. I could no more compromise with someone wishing to disarm me than I could with a robber wanting to steal my wallet.

More News From "Gun-Free" Utopia
54 people were shot and 10 killed last weekend in Chicago. How many were shot in Phoenix during the NRA convention again?
Perhaps Mayor Daley and his thugs can stop the violence by arresting mothers who keep family heirlooms in their homes or start executing people for "gun crimes." Surely those failed solutions will work just like Chicago's handgun ban has worked all these years.
McDonald can't come soon enough!

Thursday Funny - All Linky No Thinky
Nikki has your funny for this Thursday.
Disillusionment can be funny, particularly when it's at the expense of those on the left.
* And oh good lord! If you don't laugh while reading this you're not human. I'm eating lunch, and the folks at work probably think I'm crazy. Larry Correia is the man.
Thanks Tam for your superior all linky no thinky.

Unclear on the Concept
Amberwatch Alert Foundation claims that they're all about keeping communities safe, however they seem to be unclear on the concept of safety. As Breda points out, they say, "you don't need a gun to protect your kids." Yeah, you don't need a fire extinguisher to put out flames either, but it's the most effective tool for the job.
Here's what Amberwatch Alert Foundation CEO Keith Jarrett has to say,
"The more parents that sign up, the more eyes and ears we will have armed with the information and power to fight back against child predators!"
Kitty Genovese had plenty of eyes and ears around and that didn't help her fight back nor save her life.
What Mr. Jarrett and his foundation are really about is giving people a false sense of security. Their feel-good bubble will burst the moment some violent predator walks into their community and harms one of their own.
This "Amberwatch Alert" is no more than a glorified tech version of the neighborhood watch. People will sign up for it and "feel" safe. Then soon we'll hear another sobbing woman crying "This is a nice neighborhood, things like this just don't happen here!" She and her fellow residents will appear shocked as their ideology is crushed by the harsh reality that violent criminals are animalistic, opportunistic predators. The wolf has no regard for the safety of the sheep.
Notice the use of the terms "armed," "power," and "fight back." Clearly Mr. Jarrett's living in some idealistic fantasy. Perhaps he using leftist speak? No one is armed, empowered, or measurably better equipped to defend themselves because they signed up for a silly alert system.
Sure, information isn't a bad thing. Informed citizens can make better, more rational decisions about their personal safety. That said, "arming" people with information does not enable them to fight back against violent crime. Fighting back would involve stopping, or at least deterring such an attack. An alert system won't stop a child predator, a rapist, or a junkie with a knife looking for cash for his next fix. A gun might not stop them either, but at least it's a reality-based, actionable solution aimed towards being safe rather than "feeling safe."
You want to fight back? Take Jeff Cooper's advice about the proper response to predatory violence.
When I'm out of options and it's my family or my own life on the line I'll take multiple jacketed hollowpoints over harsh words, an alert system and a cellphone.
Choose your weapon, do so wisely, and as a wise woman once said,
"Carry your gun -It's a lighter burden than regret."

“One bleeding-heart type asked me in a recent interview if I did not agree that ‘violence begets violence.’ I told him that it is my earnest endeavor to see that it does. I would like very much to ensure—and in some cases I have—that any man who offers violence to his fellow citizen begets a whole lot more in return than he can enjoy."

Gun Control Fails
Even in China, where the people have no rights and their is no limit to how hard the government can press boots to your neck, gun control is still proving to be a failure.
If it fails in totalitarian Communist regimes where the government can do with you as they please (including execution for "gun crimes") how can anyone expect it to succeed in America where there are limitations on government power.
The only way gun control has ever "succeeded" is in making it easier for governments to control and slaughter people. China is proof of that truth.

Boy, Anti-Gun Folks Sure Are Violent Bigots
"My only hope is that these gun nuts will end up shooting themselves--and each other--and we can finally get some sane gun laws on the books. "
- Southern Beale - In comments to her ignorant tripe posted here.
As if her original post wasn't bad enough, her subsequent comments give you a clear portrait of the kind of people we're up against. Unlike her, I'm a big fan of free speech. I want the kind of ignorant, despicable viewpoints that SoBeale espouses out there for public consumption. I want them to see exactly the manner in which this anti-gun leftists conducts herself. I want them to see the lying, the intolerance, bigotry and outright contempt she has for her fellow citizens.
Stay classy SoBeale! You're doing those of us who truly love freedom a huge favor just by opening your mouth.
Hmm, where else have I heard a liberal anti-gunner call for the death of those who dare exercize their 2nd Amendment rights? As Uncle says, "why are anti-gunners so violent?"
I could say more, a lot more, but I think we'll leave it at that for now.
Head on over to Linoge's for his take.

Goodies From CDNN
A few days ago CDNN was having a special so I picked a few things up. You just can't pass up "buy 2 OEM Sig P-229 mags get 1 free," half price shipping and cheap factory P-220 mags.
Not only were shipping & communication excellent, but when I opened the package I also saw birchwood Casey target spots, a Glock 17/19 mag pouch, and a POS chinese pocketknife.
The knife was useless junk and got dumped in the trash, and I'll probably never use the mag pouch, but I will buy from CDNN in the future.
Now if only buying a set of Rota Slipstreams were this easy....

The Essentials
So I'm at the beach. Remembered to pack my P6 and three spare mags but I forgot my bathing suit. These are the things I do that drive me crazy.
Oh well, shorts & underwear work just fine in the ocean. Heck it's a private beach, so you could probably go in naked later in the day if you were into that sort of thing.
I'd give you something more substantive but I don't do serious posting while at the beach. Hope all of you are enjoying the weekend as much as I am.
Quote of The Day - The General Welfare
"They are not to do anything they please to provide for the general welfare.... Giving a distinct and independent power to do any act they please which may be good for the Union, would render all the preceding and subsequent enumerations of power completely useless. It would reduce the whole instrument to a single phrase, that of instituting a Congress with power to do whatever would be for the good of the United States; and as they sole judges of the good or evil, it would be also a power to do whatever evil they please."
- Thomas Jefferson
Ask a liberal and they'll tell you the general welfare clause gives the government carte blanche to do whatever they want. Turns out our Founders were clear that this was not the case.

I firmly believe in this concept and have strived to stay true to it in my writings on this blog. I suspect it is one of the key reasons why the views I espouse are held in contempt by so many on both sides of the political aisle.l

An Editorial Note
I am going to try and bring "Quote of The Day" back as a regular thing here at Another Gun Blog. I had been posting them fairly regularly (though never daily) but my supply ran dry and I didn't take the time to replenish it.
What say you readers and fellow bloggers? Do you actually enjoy the QOTD or is it just useless filler that you scroll right past?

Quote of The Day - Limited Powers
"If Congress can do whatever in their discretion can be done by money, and will promote the General Welfare, the Government is no longer a limited one, possessing enumerated powers, but an indefinite one, subject to particular exceptions. "
- James Madison - January 21, 1792 in a letter to Edmund Pendleton
That, my friends, is the government we have today.

Almost as Rare as Fiscal Restraint in the Obama Administration....
I scored some factory new Sig P-225 mags for under $40 a piece.
Oh, and a note to folks buying a single used mag for $40 or more on gunbroker (or god forbid Promags) You are all idiots. TGS has new ones (shockingly they're even in stock!) for not much more than that. I just refuse to pay that much for mags.
I really wish I'd bought 10 mags back when I could get them for ~$25 each.

Package Deal
Rights are a package deal. If we let the Marxist bums in Congress restrict political speech then defending the 2nd amendment becomes that much more difficult.
Yes, I understand that the NRA is doing what they think is practical and in their best interest, but that doesn't mean I have to like it. What is practical is not always the right thing to do, particularly when taking action in defense of liberty. Sometimes you have to stick your neck out and stand on principle. When you oppose this blatant suppression of free speech and then flip-flop because "hey, I got mine" it's going to raise the ire of many freedom-loving citizens who pay dues to the NRA.
As Martin Luther King once said,
"Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere."
I tend to think that applies when we're discussing Constitutional rights as well.
Also, I don't trust a single one of these leftist bastards in Congress to keep their word. If they can find a way to exempt certain groups only to later stab them in the back they'll do it. Of that I have no doubt.
I am NOT about to write off the NRA because of any of this. It's fine if you're emotional and pissed at them. I'm unhappy with the NRA on several issues right now, but that doesn't change the nature of things. Dumping them would be irrational. They're still the 800 pound gorilla, they still do far more good than harm to my rights, and you can't argue with their effectiveness over the past few years. Are they perfect? No, but they've certainly gotten results.
But hey, what do I know? I'm just a "freedom freak" who thinks the Disclose Act is a toxic pile of shit.
*I should point out that I renew my NRA membership annually.
Plenty of other folks have weighed in on this as well. You should read their thoughts too.

Dear NRA - Don't Tease Me Bro
So I check my e-mail a few minutes ago and I see an e-mail from the NRA entitled "Delaware: Right-to-Carry Permit Reform Headed to the Governor." Naturally I get excited, thinking that maybe shall-issue legislation moved through the State legislature and I somehow missed it.
Then I open the e-mail and am disappointed. Damn.
Granted, this is good reform, and something we need. I was just wishfully thinking it was something more.
From the e-mail,
"House Bill 226 by a vote of 21 to 0. An amendment in the bill would provide an affirmative defense to any person who is charged with carrying a concealed deadly weapon and has filed for a renewal of their permit, but is still waiting for the Superior Court to act."
This may seem minor, but it's important given that the State sometimes drags its feet with permit renewals. I suppose you could just open carry while waiting for the State to process your renewal paperwork, but you shouldn't have to.

Democratic Tyrant Assaults Lowly Commoner
These pompous, arrogant asshats who dare call themselves our "representatives" need to be reminded of one important fact. You work for us, not the other way around. They had best not forget it.
Getting his ass thrown out in November isn't near enough punishment for Rep. Bob Etheridge. (D)
This student should file assault and battery charges against Etheridge immediately. I'm already seeing people who are trying to downplay this , or blame the student because he didn't give Etheridge his name. (Imagine that, leftist apologizers blaming the victim. Inconceivable!)
This is America folks, I'm not required to give my name to any old Joe Blow who asks for it, nor is Etheridge required to give these two kids an interview on the street. He should do so, as a Representative of the people of North Carolina, but he's well within his rights to politely walk away and ignore the camera. Likewise, these two kids are well within their rights to ask him questions on a public street.
The student did nothing wrong here. He dared to question the Authoritah of a politician and was assaulted and then held against his will because of it.
Rep. Etheridge says, "I have a right to know who you are!" Bullshit! He has no "right to know" any such thing. The fact that Etheridge finds it acceptable to engage in such unprovoked physical violence simply because a fellow citizen does not immediately identify himself upon demand is appalling.
The student here would have been well within his legal rights to forcibly remove Etheridge's hand from his arm and/or neck. Actions have consequences, and Rep. Etheridge is lucky he walked away from this incident without injury.
Also, thank god for the internet. This is exactly the kind of thing that'd be buried by the MSM unless the assailant had an "R" next to his name.
Imagine if a college student had done this to a member of Congress. How long do you think it'd take for that kid to be face down on the pavement at the hands of either the cops or a private security detail?
By the way, I'm not the least bit surprised to find out he's an anti-gunner. I think unc can file this one under "Why are anti-gunners so violent?"
Oh, apparently he's "apologized." Sounds a lot like "I'm sorry I got caught" to me.
UPDATE -
For the sake of accuracy I do NOT think Rep. Etheridge's actions would be considered assault and battery. At least not under Delaware law. (I ran it past some folks who are more qualified to know this than I am and they agreed)
Under Delaware law I can't see how Etheridge would be guilty of anything more than offensive touching (601) and 2nd degree unlawful imprisionment (781) "Assault" would require that an actual physical injury occurred, or "serious physical injury" in the case of a felony assault. (611)
H/T to Breda - Thanks for raising my blood pressure.

Sentient Life-Forms
"I have never, ever come across anyone as willfully obtuse and boneheaded as you've demonstrated yourself to be with your extraordinary behaviour at my blog over the last 36 hours or so. However offensive and cynically misleading the others have been at times, at least there's been a sense of a sentient life-form being behind their comments."
-Mr. James Kelly - (scroll about halfway down in that comment thread to see the above quote)
I guess I'll take such insults from Mr. Kelly as compliments, as I have done with other anti-gunners in the past. He says this while he complains that it's the mean pro-gun folks who are being uncivil. Now, I will certainly admit to a certain amount of sarcasm in some of my comments as a means of poking fun at some of Mr. Kelly's more absurd claims but I don't consider that to be rude or uncivil.
As Kevin has so aptly pointed out, what we have here is a conflict of visions. One is based on factual evidence and logic, and is thus provable. The other, as Mr. Kelly himself is quick to remind us, is based on his "feelings" and "beliefs" rather than anything factual and reality based.
To quote Mr. Kelly as to the basis of his positions on this entire debate,
'The difference in this debate is that I have been arguing on the basis of what I believe to be true, and doing my best to explain why I believe it. Kevin, by way of contrast, claims to be able to literally ‘prove’ his case beyond any doubt whatsoever by recourse to detailed statistical data."
How can two sides attempt to have a reasoned debate when one side argues from the basis Mr. Kelly does? Not even basic principles and simple definitions in the English language can be mutually agreed upon if Mr. Kelly claims from the start that nothing he says need be grounded in reality nor supported by factual, empirical evidence.
It's as if Mr. Kelly is a "flat-earther" living in an alternate reality, while the rest of us understand that the world is round and can literally "prove" that this is true. Naturally this continued insistence and reliance on "voodoo statistics" irks the flat-earther. Conveniently, Mr. Kelly's tactics also absolve him of any responsibility for backing up his assertions and opinions.
If I am sure of one thing it is that discussions like those between us pro-gun bloggers and Mr. Kelly are an integral part of the larger pro-gun cause. They allow any neutral 3rd party observer who may stumble upon Kevin or Mr. Kelly's comment sections to ascertain which side states their position and provides empirical support, and which side continues to say "But the Earth is flat!" even as a mountain of evidence is posted disproving that claim.
Click on these words for links to the discussion at Mr. Kelly's. There are quite a few posts and comments to sift through, but it's worth your time.
Here are a handful of Kevin's posts, and Weer'd Beard and Nate have also weighed in on the discussions. I particularly liked how Weer'd titled his 1st post "Zealotry" given that Mr. Kelly's reliance upon feelings and "belief" above all else bears a striking resemblance to religious zealotry.

Friday Funny - Blast From the Past
Actually I shouldn't call this a "Friday Funny" since most of you probably won't laugh. Oh well, I'm posting it anyway.
Falnfenix reminded me of a picture recently, which I would use whenever there was a "post a picture of yourself" thread on any of the various car forums she and I frequented back in the day.
So I'm posting this for you Laura. Enjoy.
And no, I do not remember why I had a box on my head, or why in hell any of us were drinking crappy low-carb light beer.

Cute Overload!
All linky no thinky today. Head on over to Breda's for the video. I guarantee it'll put a smile on your face.
That dog is crazy hyper, though perhaps that's just a matter of perspective since I've got an unusually laid back Lab at home. Little kids love dogs. My youngest nephew likes to chase Zack around the house with a box of milkbones.

Vanishing Act
The Brady Campaign seems to have removed from their site some evidence of their glowing support for now disgraced bigot Helen Thomas. Of course you can still find evidence of the Brady's praising her, and the internet never forgets.
The Brady's have a long history of running from their bigotry once exposed. (remember what happened to their pro-gun dominated blog?)
As for Helen Thomas's comments, I can't find the right words that don't involve copious amounts of bad language. Let's just say I find such bigotry utterly despicable and leave it at that. Yeah, Thomas was a "visionary" all right. Her "vision" would make Hitler and the rest of history's worst anti-semites proud. The lack of loud, persistent condemnation of her remarks by the left is unsurprising. Their anti-semitism and contempt for Israel is well-known.
Thirdpower has video up of what the Brady's would love to forget.

Comp-Tac Spartan Review
Last June I wrote a lengthy review of my primary carry holster, a Comp-Tac MTAC. That holster has worn in quite well as I've been carrying as often as possible. With a means to carry both my P6's, P228's and P229R I suppose I didn't actually need another holster, but I decided to pick one up anyway on the off chance I felt like carrying a full-sized steel .45.
I was happy with my MTAC, so I decided to stick with Comptac for the P220ST. The Spartan was purchased purely out of curiosity. I wanted to save some money and see how the cheaper Spartan would stack up against the $80 MTAC.
Now, some might question why I'd want to carry the P220ST when I've got several Sigs that are far better suited for IWB carry. To be honest I bought the Comp-Tac Spartan for two reasons. One, I wanted to see if it was even possible for me to effectively conceal this big hunk o' steel on my frame. Two, it just didn't feel right not having a means to carry each and every pistol in my collection.
The holster is constructed quite well. I ordered this one with the same setup and adjusted it to the same forward cant as my Comptac MTAC. It's not as nice as my MTAC, but then it's not meant to be. It's essentially a budget version of the MTAC. Whereas the MTAC is double layered, with soft backing and nicely finished leather, the Spartan is true to it's name. It's single layered, so the hardware is exposed on the backside. The leather on that side is rough and unfinished.
As you might imagine based on holster construction, the Spartan doesn't lend itself to being carried against bare skin. If you're going to carry in one it's a good idea to wear a tucked in undershirt. I imagine most who carry IWB do this anyway, but with the MTAC you have an option one way or the other.
Given the size of the P220ST I'm pleasantly surprised at how well it conceals, though I will say it gets heavy after a while. The weight is to be expected with a full-size, all-steel .45, but the Spartan does a decent job of distributing weight. I likely need a better (or at least tighter) belt, since I could actually use one more hole in my Don Hume belt. I don't expect carrying a gun this big & heavy to be comfortable, but I also don't carry the P220ST regularly. My P6 is significantly easier to carry and tends to be my 1st choice when carrying IWB.
The final verdict? The spartan is a quality holster, though in my honest opinion the extra workmanship of the MTAC is worth the $16 more. Ultimately you can't go wrong with either holster.
On to the pictures! I took them in the same kind of Gap shirt as my previous MTAC review. I apologize if the picture quality isn't great. These were taken with my Iphone. I've actually gained some weight since these pictures were taken (Yay!!)
There ya go Weer'd, now you've seen it.
I don't have any pics of just the holster by itself, but I can add a few to this post later.

BP - What The Left Really Wants
"If we can take over a freaking car company than by God we can revoke BP America’s corporate charter or whatever you call it and give this corporate citizen the death sentence to make sure the people and wildlife of the Gulf don’t have to wait 26 years for their justice."
-SoBeale - on the BP oil spill
This is what the left wants. Lord knows they've hated oil companies for years, and their contempt for private enterprise is well-known. Sadly, she actually has a point. Liberals, and that so-called "conservative" GWB have been gung-ho about nationalizing private industry over the past several years. This is the next logical step for them.
Given the ramifications of her "lets destroy BP because I'm angry and emotional" strategy I wonder if she has any idea what the term "justice" really means. Likely not, but that's unsurprising given that leftists rarely think rationally or consider the unintended consequences of their ideology.

So I'm Walking Into the E.R.
I'm walking into the E.R. Sunday afternoon* and what do I see, but the dreaded "no concealed weapons" sign. I was carrying a concealed knife, as always, (oops) but I wonder if I could've walked in while open carrying?
Not that it matters much for me at this point, but if I had DE CCDW I could have walked in while packing without becoming an instant criminal because some bureaucrat stuck a sticker on the door. In Ohio, I'd have been breaking the law.
Apparently this sign is meant to establish a "gun-free zone," which ensures public safety and keeps things like sexual assaults from happening....
I got an e-mail just now discussing two sexual assaults near the hospital.
From the e-mail,
"This is a photo of the man who has already abducted and assaulted 2 woman in the areas of Rt 4 and Rt 7 (near Christiana Hospital). One of the incidents occurred when a woman walked to her car at the Abbey Medical Center - on the road between Christiana Hosp. and Rt. 4."
Had this woman been walking from her car in the hospital parking lot to the E.R. how would establishing a "gun-free zone" have helped her? I strongly suspect that hospital policy declares the entire property a "gun free zone," including the parking lot.
From what I see in the article the assailant didn't have a weapon, yet still managed to enter the cars of two women, forced them to drive somewhere against their will, and then sexually assaulted them. No one had a gun, just like Sarah Brady's utopian paradise, yet two women were still victimized.
On one last note, the signs aren't legally binding in Delaware so I'll gladly walk through them, just as this rapist or a gangbanger in Wilmington would. I'd encourage anyone who lives where such signs carry no legal weight to simply ignore them. Some policies (and laws) should be actively ignored. That last sentence is the subject of another post that I hope to have up soon.
*I was at the ER to pick up my poppop, who fell down his basement stairs while the power was out in Dover. He got up, cleaned the blood from his head and drove himself to the ER. He suffered a subdural hematoma. They discharged him and we're just keeping an eye on him for now.

Quote of the Day - Adulthood
"If you are young and you drink a great deal it will spoil your health, slow your mind, make you fat - in other words, turn you into an adult. "
-P.J. O'Rourke - Modern Manners
Ah, so that's the secret to becoming an adult. I need to start drinking more.....

Sad Pandas
"We're going to lose, but that's not a bad thing"
That's essentially what Henigan says in his latest Huffpo screed.
Poor, poor Brady's, they're so used to getting an ass-kicking they're now laying down before it even happens. I have to laugh at Henigan spinning an anticipated 2nd loss at the SCOTUS as a "win" for the gun control crowd. Not to mention his continued spinning of Heller as a "win" for his side, despite the fact that it destroyed once and for all the "collective rights" interpretation that was a basic tenet of the Brady's overall message.
War is Peace, Freedom is Slavery, Ignorance is Strength, and Losing is Winning.
To me the recent bleatings of the Brady Campaign scream "Look at us! Look at us!, we're not dead yet" as they slide increasingly into irrelevancy among the general public. It puts a smile on my face.
As an anecdote, ask your co-workers, neighbors, or some random folks on the street if they know what the NRA is. Then ask if they know about the Brady Campaign. Most folks know what "NRA" stands for, The Brady Campaign, not so much.

Bill Maher is an Idiot
"I thought when we elected a black president, we were going to get a black president. You know, this [oil spill] is where I want a real black president. I want him in a meeting with the BP CEOs, you know, where he lifts up his shirt where you can see the gun in his pants. That's — 'we've got a motherfu**ing problem here?' Shoot somebody in the foot."
-Bill Maher (video at the link)
Now, I don't take anything Maher says seriously but that doesn't mean I won't ridicule him. He's a terrible comedian and a colossal jerk. That said, could you imagine the media shitstorm if Rush Limbaugh had said something even remotely similar to this?
Hell, maybe if Obama can talk to his buddies Rahm Emmanuel and Mayor Daley we can actually make this happen.
