Gun sales up roughly 30% while murders where guns were used are down 14%. You mean to tell me that more guns = less crime? Inconceivable! Our opponents constantly claim that "more guns = more gun deaths" yet clearly this shows that's not the case either.
It's almost as if they're wrong yet again. It must get tiring, being wrong year after year after year....

Quote of the day - absurdities and atrocities
"Those who can make you believe absurdities can make you commit atrocities."
- Voltaire
Quite true. Once you've succumb to absurdity and abandoned reason you become a much more easily influenced (and controlled) pawn.

So I need new holsters
I threw a Serpa holster in the trash the other day because the lock kept sticking. Granted I have several and it was the only one giving me problems, but if it was happening to one it could just as easily happen to any of the others.
So, any suggestions for OC holsters? The Safariland ALS perhaps?

Government healthcare and cerebral palsy
Yes, I know I've discussed this issue before, and here I am again because it's one of those things that really irks me.
Selective Dorsal Rhisosomy is a surgical procedure for kids with CP. Kids with CP in countries with government healthcare cannot get this treatment. We're talking about a procedure that completely changes a persons life, as I've written about before
Imagine telling a family that there's a procedure which has been around for over two decades and that will allow their child to walk instead of being confined to a wheelchair for his entire life. Imagine telling them that they cannot get the procedure in their "enlightened" European countries because their governments have denied them that choice.
You want what's best for your child? You want the opportunity to drastically improve his or her ability to live a normal life? Sorry, but Nanny Government says this surgery is too risky so you can't get it. If you want life-changing medical care you'll have to come to what is still the most free country on earth, the United States of America.
The Scottish government's position on SDR is still "We're not sure about it yet" and "it's too risky." Keep in mind this is a procedure that has been around to treat CP since I was born. In fact, my parents actually brought me to a doctor who performed SDR. The doc said my CP was mild enough that I wouldn't be a candidate. Even 25 years ago you could bring your child to a doctor here in the U.S. and have this procedure done, yet in the UK it is described as something new, pioneering and groundbreaking.
I see all of these stories from Europe and it just pisses me off. It pisses me off that these families have no choice but to ask for charity so they can come here and pay cash for a treatment we've had for decades and which their government bureacrats are denying them.
The only reason these kids can't get a new lease on life is because overbearing bureacracy in Socialist European governments have decided to deny individual choice, create disincentives for doctors, and stifle medical innovation. Of course the level of neo-natal care for premature babies in Europe might have something to do with these kids having CP. That's just a hunch of course.
The results really are life-changing.
I could link to a million stories of kids just like this coming to the U.S. and leaving with a drastically improved quality of life. Meanwhile, back in May of this year a boy in the UK was the first EVER to have SDR surgery in the UK rather than America. The NIH is the UK is just now admitting that hey, this SDR stuff might actually benefit kids with CP, saying,
"The latest evidence and expert opinion suggests that treatment can improve spasticity in the longer term"
Really? You think so? The latest evidence? The NIH must be run by a bunch of idiots who have been living under a rock for the last quarter century or so.
*Yes, I know I included many links. You should read them all.

Open invite from a good man
One of the original founders of the Tea Party movement, Ali A. Akbar, invites Morgan Freeman to a Tea Party event.
I for one applaud Akbar for saying many of the things that white americans are afraid to say for fear of being branded "racist" Do I expect Freeman to take him up on his offer and have an open mind? No. My experience tells me that most Liberals do not have an open mind and are not interested in viewpoints which challenge their worldview. I hope Morgan Freeman attends a Tea Party event, but I expect that he will not.
Calling your political opponents "Racist" is convenient and a lot easier than having an intelligent discussion of the issues. Perhaps that is why the Left uses it to denigrate Tea Partiers so often, because if there's an honest debating of the issues and of leftist policies they will lose.

R-E-S-P-E-C-T
A local blogger points out an Op-Ed from a lady in the town where I grew up. Pat Englehardt is whining because people just won't respect poor old Obama.
Respect Obama? You mean the way Liberals "respected" President Bush for 8 years? Look, I've leveled some blunt criticism at Obama on this blog over the years. That said, the things I've uttered pale in comparison to things I've heard the left, including the left here in Delaware, say about President Bush, Conservatives, or god forbid Sarah Palin. I mean you haven't seen me cheering and happy because a Democrat got brain cancer. Hell, I even had a family member say Bush was as bad as Hitler. No joke!
Obama has damn well earned criticism and I'm quite certain I have the right to say what I think of the man and his policies, even if that results in you getting your panties in a bunch Mrs. Englehardt.
I consider Obama to be a rude, contemptible, arrogant, narcissistic, pompous asshat who is in way over his head, loathes capitalism, and fails to respect my Constitutional rights.
This is America. I can criticize the President and his policies all I want. I wonder if it upsets Englehardt when people refer to now ex-President Bush as simply "Bush" or if she's only upset because some people are now omitting the "President" title when referencing "Obama?"
I'll leave you with her last bit.
He's not a "hail-fellow well-met" like President Bush; he is a thinking, intelligent planner who is heads above the common man, and does not say anything without thinking it through and meaning what he says.
Right, so a woman who has devoted an entire article to complaining about lack of respect for Obama concludes her Op-Ed by insulting Bush and exalting the wonders of the oh so intelligent Obama. I mean hell, Obama is just SO much smarter than "common men" like you or I, or that idiot George W. Bush..... With hypocrisy like that she's got to be a Lefty.

Quote of the day - Government power
"A free market doesn’t stay free when government begins competing in it, and just the mere existence of the ability to use its regulatory power to favor its own operation will distort market behavior in significant and freedom-chilling ways. "
- Ed Morrissey of HotAir
Exactly. Government is force, therefore they do not "compete" in the market by any true sense of the word. They say, whether explicitly or otherwise, "do what we say or else." They have no place "competing" in the market.

In the jolly old, gun-free UK
A young man with cerebral palsy gets beaten so badly he ends up with a fractured skull, and a teenager stabs two people at a pub. It's ok though, at least they weren't shot, right? Oh, and it's all caught on CCTV cameras that are so essential in preventing violent crime. Hell, just look at how well it prevented these crimes!
Ah yes, the civilized UK, wherecitizens subjects aren't allowed to carry guns.
Here in America we do things right. Here even the wheelchair bound have the means to fight back.
America! Fuck yeah!

Quote of the day - failure to trust
"Morality is always the product of terror; its chains and strait-waistcoats are fashioned by those who dare not trust others, because they dare not trust themselves, to walk in liberty. "
- Aldous Huxley
So much of what is wrong with American society is a result of peoples need to deny others freedom based upon a lack of trust in their own behavior, character, and convictions. Though many will steadfastly deny it, they do not trust themselves with freedom, so they seek to deny it to others.

Nothing
Nothing. That's what I've got. The pictures for the post I was going to get up today are still on my camera and while I could choose to bore you all with some rant / current thing that's bothering me that you don't really want to hear I won't do that. Talk amongst yourselves, read the archives, hit the sidebar.
I will say this. If I were a hobo anywhere in Northern Ohio I would be very, very, afraid after seeing this. Don't mess with gimps, especially tiny ones with guns!

SIG Corporate
As if I needed further reason not to buy a NIB current production Sig pistol, now we have this. What the hell? Also, as far as Sig custom shops packages are concerned there's nothing they can do that the crew at Grayguns couldn't do 100 times better.
The newest Sig I own is about 7 years old. The oldest is over 30. I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Science experiment gone wrong
Thankfully this experiment only took place in Alan's head. Being chased by foot tall, pantsless, Robb Allen zombies would be terrifying.
Did some mad scientist combine Breda's DNA with Robb's to create elf-sized, pantsless zombies? If that's the case Alan is screwed. He's no match for them!

Friday earworms
Hopefully most of my readers are familiar with Presidents of the United States of America. They were an odd 90's band with some seriously whacky songs. To this day I'll still pull out that album and listen to it the whole way through.
I don't know that I can really pick a favorite song, though "Lump" is up there.
This one will be Robb Allen's theme song after he gets famous shooting in USPSA.
And of course "Kitty" is perfect for Breda

Quote of the day - Anti-gun shills
"If the gun control extremists want to understand why they can’t get any traction, they need to look no further than the fact that they even need to throw money at people to have a voice at all."
-Sebastian
Sebastian is absolutely right here. You know your cause has virtually no grassroots support when you're reduced to having to pay small time bloggers just so you'll have someone to parrot your message.
In contrast, take a look at the Gun Blog Blacklist. There must be hundreds of pro-gun voices listed, and not a single one of those bloggers gets paid to write posts by the NRA, SAF, GAO, JPFO or other gun-rights organization. We do this for free. Our opponents have to engage in paid advocacy. I do this to entertain me, not because someone handed me $100 and said "here, write this post."

McCain 2.0?
Apparently Meghan McCain wrote an article complaining about Rick Perry and the fact that what the Republicans really need is a "moderate Republican." Essentially she's saying the Party needs someone like her daddy or worse, a straight liberal RINO like Mitt Romney in order to beat Obama.
Newsflash Meghan! Your pops lost to Obama. He lost in large part because he was a boring, uniniteresting, uninspiring "moderate Republican" who attempted to compromise and pat Liberals on the back all the time. He allowed Obama, liberals and the media to go on the offensive and to dictate the terms during the campaign rather than taking the fight to them. Why else do you think McCain was the MSM's pick as nominee? Anytime the Republicans end up with the Republican the MSM is endorsing as "the Republican Candidate" we can be reasonably sure that person is a terrible option.
If Rick Perry is "George Bush 2.0" then he is most certainly not "too conservative." Hell, he's not "conservative" at all if that's the case.
I'm wondering if Meghan McCain really believes that the reason her dad lost in 2008 was because he wasn't moderate enough? Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again while expecting different results. Meghan McCain wants Republicans to do what they did in 2008. Why? It failed against Obama back then. Why would any rational person suggest we need to try the same approach in 2012?

Mmmm Northcoast beer
Root beer!
This was a gift from Mom Fallacy at Northcoast II. Thank you!
Glass-bottled root beer with real sugar, none of that overly sweet, syrupy high fructose corn syrup crap. I'm generally not a root beer fan, but I absolutely love good root beer. (craft brews! hah!) Sadly it is all gone now and good lord, look at the price on Amazon! The stuff costs more than Burton Baton, and that's before shipping! I'm hoping it's cheaper locally so I can pick some up the next time I'm in Ohio.
I used to seek out Hank's Root Beer whenever I could find it, but it seems to have totally disappeared from all the places that used to carry it around me. This Boyland brand root beer makes Hank's taste like A&W.

More Guns, Less Crime
In North Carolina, the number of concealed handgun permitholders increased and crime involving handguns decreased! You mean more people carrying guns didn't cause blood in the streets!? Unpossible!

He needed killin'
Some people just need killin'. I wish this monster had been leaking from a bunch of neat little holes at the beginning of his "journey." Instead he put a young through a kind of terrifying, day-long ordeal I can't even begin to comprehend.*
People like Sarah Brady, our liberal governor Jack Markell, and anyone who opposes OC and shall-issue CCW in the state of Delaware should be ashamed of themselves. They should have to stand face to face with women who have suffered like this and say "We are going to dedicate ourselves to making it harder for you to carry a gun for self-defense."
Oh, and the abductions occurred in broad daylight in a good area not far from my apartment, with at least one rape occurring in the Christiana Mall** parking lot. A lot of good police and mall security presence at the Mall did this woman.
Stories like these are a big part of the reason I abhor the "just give them what they want" line of reasoning. What if the thing the sick, violent predator wants is you?
*two women actually.
** Christiana Mall is anti-gun of course.

Another knife meme
It looks like there's another knife meme floating around the intertubes. This one asks what pocketknife are you carrying?
Today it's my Camillus Blaze assisted opener. I really like this knife. It's also within DE's assinine 3 inch blade length limit for pocketknives.

Obama - Idealism vs. Reality
During Obama's Darth Bus rockstar tour a farmer asks him about the harm increased regulations might do to his business. President Obama, being the intelligent, cerebral man that he is, suggests that the man just "call the USDA to get his question answered.
Sounds simple enough, right? Well a reporter tries just that and it turns out, not so much.
That my friends is government in a nutshell, and it shows just how out of touch Obama is with both the common man and with the behemoth government bureacracies he seeks to grow and feed. Of course this makes sense when you consider that Obama just doesn't like private business.
I've had my own experience with this at the State level, and let me tell you it's not much better.

Quote of the Day - Liberals and idiots
"Despite all the other laws they break, criminals will miraculously abide by anti-gun laws - Liberals & idiots believe this."
-Breda via Twitter
I've asked many anti-gun liberals to explain how gun control "works' considering that violent criminals commit all manner of felonies in spite of them. I get a lot of evasion, a lot of "more folks carrying guns will mean more crimes of passion," but never an intelligent answer.
I remember a string of robberies here in DE committed by a guy with a pellet pistol and a .22 rifle which had the buttstock and barrel sawed off. The guy had a long rap sheet (surprise, surprise!) had stolen the guns in a burglary, and of course committed a felony using a hacksaw on the .22 rifle. It amazes me that any intelligent person could claim that another felony or two might cause such a person to reconsider their crime or change their behavior.
It's one of those central themes that anti-gunners fervently believe which I'll just never be able to wrap my head around because it's so shockingly dumb and naive. I think it's more a belief system issue than anything. They want to (have to) believe that laws cannot be broken and that more laws = less crime because admitting otherwise calls the power of the state into question.
Of course they can admit how easily drug laws are ignored in this country but refuse to see the parallel to gun control.

Obviously we need more gun control
More gun control would keep these fine, upstanding Delawareans from pulling a gun on a man in traffic and ordering him to pull over.
I mean it's not as if they were prohibited persons CCW'ing without a permit while in a gun free school zone..... oh wait, nevermind.

I have my issues with Sarah Palin, but the crux of what she says here is right-on. Of course those who most desperately need to hear it won't listen, and the media has long ago written her off as a bumbling moron even though she's anything but. Speaking of bumbling moron, have they heard Obama's speeches lately?
Anyone with half a brain who was willing to reason could have seen this coming. If a bank is looking at issuing me credit they look, first and foremost, at my debt, my spending habits and my ability to pay down my debt in the future. If I made $30K / yr, spent, $90K, had outstanding debt of $300K and showed no willingness to cut spending I'd have to be a crackhead to expect to maintain a 750 credit score. I certainly wouldn't blame Equifax when my credit score plummeted.
Liberals can hem and haw about the other factors involved in S&P's analysis during the debt ceiling talks, be it global economic outlook, failure to raise taxes or the contentious political climate, but that doesn't change reality. Those are secondary issues. Reality is that we weren't downgraded because the Tea Party took us to the brink by being obstructionist. We were downgraded because we are spending too much bloody money!

Palin-Bashing
The fact that the despicable, vitriolic liberal nutbags in my state hate Sarah Palin so much just makes me like her even more. No, I'm not a huge fan of hers by any means, but I do like her in large part because of the batshit-insane reactions she elicits from those on the left.
What do you think it is about Palin that makes leftists hate her in such a deep, personal, and utterly classless manner?

Boobies & Booties
You know what would be funny? A Blue-footed Boobie with booties.
Boobies with nice booties. That'd I'd pay to see! Now, where to find some boobies? I think we need a pair, just to make things fair.
Maybe Nancy could knit some booties? I mean hell, they shouldn't be OC'ing those dangerous looking blue feet, scaring all the white people, and hurting the cause of the ta-ta's.

Quote of the day - fuck off
"You know the reason I want to open carry? Because it's my right as a living human and if you disagree then you can just fuck off."
Alan
I think that pretty much sums things up, eh? Be safe, don't be an asshole, carry however you damn well please and leave others be to choose how to carry. Ultimately you are exercising a Constitutionally protected civil right. You don't need to justify that to anyone.

A Clean Success
I finally broke down the Dan Wesson for cleaning last night. After a few mishaps and my sending the recoil spring plug across the room where it decided to hide I got the damn thing cleaned, lubed and reassembled.
Of course now I've got a nice "idiot scratch" on it. Mine's actually in a zig-zag pattern going from the slide stop down towards the trigger. Good thing I've long since stopped worrying about putting scratches on guns. (even $1K guns) If you shoot and carry a gun it's going to get wear marks and scratches, so what's one more?

Dear violent lefties
Some violent lefty is gleefully chirping about rounding up "tea-party types" to send them to re-education camps. It's funny, the history of the "progressive" left is rife with examples of their doing exactly that. The "Left" has been responsible for more imprisonment, "re-education" and extermination of those who didn't share their utopian ideals than any other group in world history.
Members of the American left spew hatred and vitriol at those who refuse their worldview. They denigrate us, attack us, belittle us, and when you look at their endgame their view is obvious. They see us as a threat* that must be dealt with.
*And trust me collectivists, we sure as heck are a threat. We have guns and are willing to defend ourselves.
But hey, this guy is an improvement over the violent, raving, moonbat liberals in my state. At least he just wants us rounded up and "reeducated" instead of "round up and shot." Still, the overall content of both his article and the one linked in the preceeding sentence are essentially the same. They generally don't say it publicly, but this IS the left. It always has been and always will be. Their utopian, "progressive" vision necessitates such hatred and brutality, as history has so aptly shown us time and time again.

Breast Cancer Awareness
Bersa has a matte pink breast cancer awareness Bersa Thunder .380 kit. This is old news, but it's the 1st I'd heard of it and frankly, it's pretty awesome! It also probably drives hardcore contemporary feminists nuts, which is an added plus.
My late Mom-Mom was a breast cancer survivor, though cancer, the bitch that it is, did catch up to her in the end.

Narcissism and Obama
If you read only one article about our Narcissist-in-Chief it should be this piece in The Weekly Standard.
When you've lived around narcissism you recognize it in others.
Hell, my father called me last week, complaining because I was running late getting to my birthday celebration and he was hungry and annoyed that he had to wait for me to get there before he could eat dinner and have cake. He also complained to my mother, saying "why are you letting him have that cake?" because he doesn't like the Rum cake she was making. Her solution was to make him a bunch of cupcakes so he'd be happy. Here's a 60+ year old man whining like a kid because he's not getting his way on someone elses birthday.
That's narcissism in a nutshell. That's President Obama, only Obama's level of narcissism and delusions of grandeur are far, far worse.

If you really love me......
......PASS THIS BILL! Oh, you mean the bill you haven't even written yet? This is really quite pathetic and narcissistic, even for Obama.
Nala and Simba have asked the question, "Can you feel the love tonight?" The answer, President Obama, is NO.
Also, they're remaking The Lion King in 3-D? Damn I'm old.

Quote of the day - Lefties
"Terrorist," "racist," "uncivil," "insane," the list goes on--in this context, these words have no real meaning. They are mere epithets. The Obama presidency has reduced the liberal left to an apoplectic rage. His Ivy League credentials, superior attitude, pseudointellectual mien and facile adherence to lefty ideology make him the perfect personification of the liberal elite. Thus far at least, he has been an utter failure both at winning public support and at managing the affairs of the nation."
- WSJ
I'll be damned if that isn't one of the most apt descriptions of Obama's Presidency I've ever read. Also, the author is right, many such words have lost their original meaning. Why? Because the Left has perverted them to the point of meaninglessness.

Smart folks in Willoughby
They held a meeting to decide what to do in case Alan & I were still in town on our Birthday. No word yet on what they were planning. Maybe they were going to turn the cannon around, load us into it and have Breda shoot us out of town? I'm not quite sure they thought their cunning plan all the way through though. You could probably shove my scrawny ass in there, but I'm not sure Alan would fit.
Open carry - case in point
Point # 4 in this post dealt with the "yall are a bunch of untrained yahoos" attitude you sometimes see amongst the more elitist, condescending & elitist anti-OC folks.
Sebastian puts up a post on the subject of Open Carry and predictably, commenter "David" jumps right in with point # 4 in a very "I'm totally awesome and super fit! Anyone not like me shouldn't open carry" manner. Funny, because I'd put money on Breda being able to outshoot him even if she couldn't stand up to his ridiculous physical standards.
If he's pro-gun I'd love to see how many people he's won over by acting like an asshole. Why is it that posts on OC always bring out those who love to act like assholes on the internet?

Holding kids back
Robb relays a story about Khan private schools. In it, teachers who review Khan Academy's curriculum had this critique.
"Khan’s programmer, Ben Kamens, has heard from teachers who’ve seen Khan Academy presentations and loved the idea but wondered whether they could modify it “to stop students from becoming this advanced.”
Get that?! So there's a teaching method that works beautifully and what do the public school teachers wonder? How do we change it so that we can impede student progress and learning? Sadly this is not unusual. I learned plenty outside of school doing my own reading on my own time. My parents encouraged this. I openly questioned things I learned in the classroom and found alternate viewpoints myself. It seems more and more true as I've gotten older that the school system is NOT designed to teach citizens how to think for themselves, but for conformity and indoctrination.
In first grade the teacher and school administrators wanted to hold me back a year. No, not because I had any learning problems, but because I was smaller than all of the other kids because of my CP. They were worried I might get hurt. They wanted to impede my learning for no reason other than my physical size. After a few weeks of being held back, a teacher complaining about my being bored out of my mind, and my parents getting on the administrators they put me in the correct grade. Thank god they did.

Quote of the day - world of difference
"There is world of difference between “I don’t want to open carry” and “You shouldn’t open carry.”
George of Newbieshooter via Alan's
My personal preferences are just that. Far too many people forget that and start preaching to the rest of us about how to conduct our daily affairs. As long as I'm not actively harming others then the manner in which I exercise my rights should be of no consequence to you. That said, I do realize that I am sadly in the minority when it comes to not wanting to force my morals and lifestyle choices upon others.

9/11
I didn't write a 9/11 post yesterday because I honestly didn't have anything to say that hasn't already been said.
I would, however, like to quote Robb Allen
"I fear my government more than I do any goat humping terrorist. I’d fear the terrorist more if he were here to help me instead."
Indeed. My own government is a far more serious and immediate threat to my life and liberty than some raghead terrorist who shits in a hole in the ground in some mud hut while dreaming of 72 virgins.
I do hope that you all took a moment to not just remember those lost, but to remember the heroes of flight United 93 who saved so many lives a decade ago.

Dear Rob Pincus
If all you're going to do is say stupid crap, discourage the free exercise of a constitutional right, and deride those who choose to OC then maybe you should choose not to open your yap and exercise your 1st Amendment rights? Oh, don't like someone telling you to STFU and not exercise your 1st Amendment rights? Hmmm.
Pincus says we should not carry guns to make a political statement but solely as a means of self-defense. And I quote,
"I think Open Carry is a poor choice in populated areas when you have other options (CCW) to be armed for personal protection. I vehemently believe that you should NOT carry a gun for political reasons, but solely as a means of defense."
He then links to a story where a man was just minding his own business while OC'ing and had the cops called on him. As for carrying for political purposes, can I not do both simultaneously? Can't carrying be a means of self-defense and individual expression?
The rift in the pro-gun community when discussing OC vs. CCW is one of those things that truly irks me. If we were truly freedom loving individuals we would just say "I wouldn't choose your method of carry but I respect your choice and I'll fight for your right to carry." What is so damn hard about that?
Pincus also had this to say in the comments to his post,
"The right to OC, IMO, should NOT be exercised because it isn't the BEST way to avoid confrontation as long as possible and have the benefit of surprise when you do"
He is basing this statement off of what exactly? Feelings. It is complete bullshit. How does he know that OC isn't the best way to avoid confrontation? I fail to see how it's logical to say that CCW helps you avoid confrontation as long as possible. If OC deters a potential attack then it has helped you avoid confrontation where CCW would not have.
Why is it that my fellow gunnies have to react with derision to those who choose to OC? Does Pincus not realize he sounds like a garden variety anti-gunner? I hear almost as much "the sky is falling! the sky is falling" BS from the gunnie crowd with regards to OC as I do from anti-gunners.
1. "You'll just have the gun taken away from you if you OC."
This one is a fallacy often used by the anti-gunners, which the anti-OC gunnie crowd has co-opted. Unless you can substantiate the claim with actual empirical evidence this is no more than baseless fearmongering, no different than that of the bleating, anti-gun sheeple. And no, citing police shot with their own guns doesn't count. Cops have to run towards trouble, apprehend and arrest suspects and wilfully engage in altercations in a manner that a non-LEO OC'er does not.
2. "You'll be the 1st target for a bad guy"
Again, a completely unsubstantiated statement based on fear. If this were the case we'd see growing evidence of it with the growth in popularity of OC.
3. "You'll scare everyone away, hurt the cause, and mobilize the anti's to action."
There have been a scant few instances where this has been the case. By and large though, only those wishing to deny reality can claim that the open carry movement hasn't made a great deal of positive headway. Sure there have been some setbacks along the way, but if no one bothers to push the envelope in defense of their rights do you know what happens? Nothing.
4. "I don't want a bunch of untrained yahoos carrying guns."
You hear this one a lot from "elite tactical trainers" like Pincus. I also hear it quite a bit from CCW holders who seem to think of being a CCW permit holder as some kind of lofty status symbol.
An idiot with a gun is going to be an idiot with a gun regardless of whether he took some class. Throughout most of American history average citizens responsibly carried firearms without having taken formalized training classes from elite operators. Millions of Americans own guns for defense and do not practice with them regularly, yet somehow they seem to do well when they need to use them. Do you really think the average person who successfully uses a gun to stop a violent crime has taken a specialized firearms training class? Of course not.
Plenty of states don't require live-fire or any hands-on training to get a CCW permit. Show me empirical data proving that CCW holders in states with less stringent permit standards are more negligent, irresponsible and / or ineffective when using a firearm compared to permit holders in other states. Show me evidence of all of the massive problems occuring because untrained yahoos are open carrying.........
I have to wonder, what other rights does Rob Pincus think American citizens shouldn't exercise in populated areas?
Sigh. I am sick of the in-fighting. You don't want to open carry? Fine, then don't, but don't tell others that they shouldn't simply because YOU don't like it. It makes you sound like some smarmy liberal.

Social Security
If the government is holding onto your money until you retire it is not "secure" anymore than it'd be if you gave it to Tyrone Biggums. Social Security is a farce. It is a ponzi scheme in which the pool of "investors" is taken at gunpoint. President Obama claimed during the debt ceiling talks that Social Security payments will be forced to stop if we don't raise the ceiling. That was pure fearmongering
If the Government was really holding onto my money for safekeeping there'd be a Social Security Trust fund with trillions in it with which they could pay out benefits, right? Is Obama acknowledging that there is no trust fund, that it's all smoke & mirrors, or is he playing politics and lying about there being no money to pay benefits come August 3rd?
What we do know about Social Security is this. Outgoing payments currently exceed incoming revenues. Imagine you have money in the bank but are spending more than you're putting in, with the gulf between the two projected to only increase over time. What happens to the money you have in the bank? It disappears as time goes on. That's where we are right now. Social Security is insolvent. (PDF!)
Rick Perry points out the truth, says it like it is and people go apeshit. People talk about "saving" social security. It is a legalized ponzi scheme. Either you cut it off now and hurt some people or you wait until the entire system collapses on itself, which is inevitable. You cannot "save" or fix a system that was not built on sound economic principles to begin with.

Quote of the day - our hands
"There is simply no escaping the fact that the fate of the Constitution is in our hands - as voters, representatives, justices. If we allow ourselves to abuse the tradition of higher lawmaking, the very idea that the Constitution can be viewed as the culminating expression of a mobilized citizenry will disintegrate. After all, the American Republic is no more eternal than the Roman -- and it will come to an end when American citizens betray their Constitution’s fundamental ideals and aspirations so thoroughly that existing institutions merely parody the public meanings they formerly conveyed"
- Bruce Ackerman - Sterling Professor - Yale Law
I'm inclined to say we're already at that point, but I'd prefer not to think about it. It's depressing.

Dear Beretta
Make this gun in .357 SIG and I'll buy it right away. The CX4 Storm was a blast to shoot!

I am dead tired today so all you're getting are a few Northcoast II pictures. I think I passed out about 9PM last night. Apparently my body finally decided I needed sleep. More pictures and posts later. I have quite a few folks I need to thank as well.

Mixing Guns & Alcohol at Northcoast
As gunnies we pride ourselves on being prepared for every situation. With that in mind I made sure to wear this ingenious hat to Northcoast II. It came in mighty handy during the post-shooting festivities. That reminds me, I've still got a few kickass root beers given to me by Mom Fallacy.
Shooting in a Guinness hat that provides easy access to adult beverages! See? Guns & alcohol do mix!

Big cannon, little woman
The important questions here are "will the recoil knock her on her ass?" and "Is Alan OK?"!
Don't let her peaceful, angelic face fool you. She has a Deathstare, she's riding a cannon, and you are downrange!
And no, I did not ride the cannon. Just think of all the jokes that would create....
.
Me with the cannon, but c'mon, you didn't really want to see me now did you? :)
The Willoughby town folk don't let foreigners ride their cannon, but we can hump it.

No wonder Breda hates the library
Even on holiday's when the library is closed she has to shoo people away. Hobo's, teenage skateboarders, snotman, old guys hitting on her and a gun-free zone. What's not to love?
I am alive
I'm alive. It rained most of the drive home from Willoughby and then I got stuck behind a big rig going far below the speed limit on a one-lane road during the very last leg of the trip. Got home, showered, had a protein shake and then made sure to get 8 hours of sleep. I'm exhausted and both my good shoulder and bad shoulder are sore, but that's OK!
Now I'm off to the DMV. Yes, the DMV on my birthday. Will have a Northcoast post up and pictures later on. Oh, and happy birthday Alan!
